Enable Parental Participation in child life

About us

Saajha works towards enhancing parental and community engagement in public primary schools, to ensure an effective collaboration between schools and the community thereby improving the learning outcomes. Lack of capabilities both within the schools and the community, coupled with class bias between the school staff and the parents constrain any active collaboration. Ttowards this, Saajha therefore works towards strengthening strengthens the School Management Committees (SMCs), which are mandatory bodies comprising of elected parents, teachers and representatives of the community. By integrating use of technology, training and providing on-ground support to SMCs to enable them to solve issues togetherin collaboration with elected leaders, Saajha ensures SMCs become a transfomativetransformational force in these schools. This makes the SMCs a potentially transformational force capable of ensuring a collaborative approach between the schools and parents. Towards this, Saajha builds leadership in schools and communities to ensure an effective collaboration, thereby ensuring better learning outcomes for children studying in public primary schools.

This acknowledgement highlights the importance of the work we do and motivates us to continue our efforts with even more determination.

We would like to thank ATE Chandra Foundation for believing in our mission and supporting us in many ways. With the support and guidance of ATE Chandra Foundation, we were able to build the rights strategies and systems to achieve the desired impact in the past two years. We currently support over 2 Lac parents through our network compared to 20,000 parents in 2022. This was only possible with the right support and guidance from our mentors and our dedicated team!

There is no doubt about the fact that the right combination of strategy, data and strong internal systems can transform organisations and amplify their impact. Here is one such story by our colleague Meeti Kapadia who writes about how our partner NGO Saajha, grew their reach from 25000 parents in 2022 to more than 200,000 parents in 2024 all thanks to their capacity building efforts in #mel and #fundraising!

How Saajha’s focus on MEL and Fundraising helped them increase their reach from ~25000 parents in 2022 to 200,000+ parents by March 2024

At Indus Action, we’re happy to share some incredible moments from Saajha's ShareNet, where our team members Kritika Sangani and Natasha Uppal took the stage alongside parents and experts in social protection, education, and health. 🎙️ The panel delved into the powerful role of parental support during a child's early years, exploring innovative strategies to empower caregivers and improve outcomes through integrated systems. But that’s not all! 🌟 At the exhibition, Care To Play Caregivers showcased the amazing skills they’ve developed through our project. For many, this was their first stall, and over 50% of their handcrafted products were sold with a solid profit margin! 🎉 From Potli bags to table runners, these artisans displayed an array of beautifully crafted items, all while gaining confidence and preparing for the next level of their journey. We’re incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing how their training, which began in July 2024, continues to uplift and empower them. 🙌✨ #IndusAction #SaajhaShareNet #EmpoweringCaregivers #Handicrafts #CommunityImpact #SocialChange

Thank you Swati Vasudevan for participating in the panel discussion on Tech and Learning at Sharenet 2024, and enabling the parents with knowledge on how to use technology as an enabler into their children's learning journey along with the other panelists!

Thank you Saajha for organizing the panel on Tech and Learning at Sharenet 2024. It was great to exchange learnings with fellow panelists Shashank Pandey Shreya Tiwari. VoC (voice of the student and voice of the parent) is key while designing digital learning tools. It was heartening to see so many parents interested in learning about how they can support their students’ learning and how to safely incorporate technology as an enabler into their student’s learning journey. Hearing their concerns about the need for capacity building for parents to enable at-home supervision for tech use also resonated. We at Khan Academy and Khan Academy India are striving to solve exactly these challenges on the ground. Thank you Saransh Vaswani Abhishek Choudhary

I had the privilege of participating in an insightful session on 'Literacy, Numeracy, and Assessments' during #ShareNet24. Our panel explored the importance of large-scale, classroom-based, and parental assessments in shaping a child’s learning journey. We emphasized the need to raise awareness about children's developmental needs and ensure that assessments are aligned with clear learning outcomes and objectives. A critical question that emerged during the Q&A was about assessing Children with Special Needs (CWSN). It highlighted the necessity of adapting assessment frameworks to meet the unique developmental needs of every child. Inclusivity in assessments is not just an option but a collective responsibility of the entire education fraternity if we aim to achieve equitable education for each child. Another memorable moment was welcoming little explorers, parents, and educators to EduWeave Foundation's learning station. Interacting with Ulhas Vairagkar, Swetha Guhan Varun Naik Shivani Parashar Barkha S. Navnit Nirav and Bharti Goyal was an incredible experience. A huge thank you to my fellow panelists Shweta Bhutada, Shivani Parashar, Darshna Ji and the Saajha team for this enriching platform and to all the participants who contributed with their thoughtful questions and perspectives.
