Educate Girls successfully organised a two-day curriculum development workshop for Uttar Pradesh State Open School under the aegis of Patrachar Shikshan Sansthan. This initiative was started with the aim of making content more accessible and interesting for drop outs and students who wish to complete their education up to Class 10. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Shri. This August, Safeena Husain, founder of Educate Girls, shared her vision, stories, and experiences across Australia. From her keynote at the Philanthropy Australia conference, to panel discussions in Adelaide, Sydney, and Melbourne, Safeena brought to light the challenges faced by girls in rural India and the life-changing mission Educate Girls has been fulfilling since 2007. Since its inception, a staggering 1.8 million girls have been enrolled in school through their programs. The final event was with fellow TED Talker and founder of The Life You Can Save, Peter Singer in Melbourne. I was thrilled to host this event where guests heard from two extraordinary humans that have sparked movements to bring about change. The final event in Melbourne was particularly special, where I had the opportunity to host Safeena alongside Peter Singer, founder of The Life You Can Save. Both Safeena and Peter discussed how their work—whether in mobilising communities and gender champions to support girls’ education or promoting ethical responsibility to reduce poverty—has driven significant societal and mindset shifts. While many of us instinctively recognise the transformative power of education, it’s important to note its broader impacts. Educating girls is ranked as the #6 climate change mitigation tactic by Project Drawdown because of its profound effects on population growth, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability. Educate Girls is one of the nonprofits identified by The Life You Can Save as highly impactful, cost-effective, and scalable. Wow. The AIDN team have walked away from last week's Philanthropy Australia conference inspired, energised and with a long list of stand out moments for international giving. 👉 On the Monday, AIDN partnered with the Australian Council for International Development to present the our second "Global Development Leadership Dialogue Series". Facilitated by AIDN's Simon Lewis (GoodWolf Partners), the panel featured Anubha Rawat (The DAK Foundation), Andy Bryant (Segal Family Foundation), Emily Moreton (ACFID) and Matthew Maury (Tearfund) and asked the question: How can we leverage the shift toward Trust-Based Philanthropy & Investment in Local Leadership to improve development outcomes? 👉 On the Tuesday, James Chen (The Chen Yet-Sen Family Foundation) hosted a fantastic plenary session: "Moonshot philanthropy: freedom to take risks is the ultimate superpower". 👉 Also on the Tuesday, Safeena Husain (Educate Girls) inspired the audience with her plenary session "Accelerating impact at scale through investing in women and girls". 👉 On the Wednesday, AIDN was thrilled to host and welcome Andy Bryant (Segal Family Foundation) for the outstanding keynote address: “Trust-based philanthropy - backing the bold ideas of local leaders” moderated by Mark Cubit (AIDN). 👉 Also on Wednesday, Evelyn Omala (Partners for Equity and AIDN) hosted a timely breakout session: "Embracing trust and local leadership to shift perspectives in international giving" alongside Andy Bryant, Safeena Husain and Isabelle Kamariza (Solid'Africa). 👉 In addition to the conference, AIDN hosted two exciting events in Melbourne and Sydney later in the week with guests Andy Bryant, Evelyn Omala, Isabelle Kamariza, and Mark Cubit. We would like to sincerely thank the Philanthropy Australia team for their huge efforts in putting the conference together.
