The steel industry is vital to India's economy but also a major carbon emitter, contributing 7-9% of global CO₂ emissions. To tackle this, India targets reducing steel sector emissions to 2.2 tCO₂/t by 2030. The Ministry of Steel has introduced the Green Steel Certification under the Green Steel Taxonomy, categorizing low-emission steel with 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star ratings based on emissions intensity. Though voluntary, this certification offers key benefits: #1 Market Advantage #2 Improved Process Efficiency #3 Alignment with Carbon Policies We’re here to help you navigate the certification process. Reach out to learn more! Stay tuned for updates! Ever wondered how India has shaped its policies around pollution, resource management, and climate governance? A recent special issue in the Economic and Political Weekly (EPW) unpacks exactly that. It examines the breadth of India’s environmental regulations—from air and water pollution control, to the role of state agencies, the judiciary, and how climate change obligations get “domesticated” into national policy. You can access the issue at https://lnkd.in/d8wxwbvS I personally found Pollution Regulation in India by Shibani Ghosh, Luxy COnsumption In India by Soumyajit Bhar insighful and thought provoking. Will be writing about them in coming posts. If you are interested in knowing how India's environment laws and policies have shaped do give it a read! #EnvironmentalGovernance, #Sustainability, #ClimateAction, #PollutionControl, Social Lab Environmental Solutions 3R Solutions

What if farm waste and city compost could rebuild soil health and create new revenue streams for farmers? Declining soil fertility and wasted organic resources remain major challenges in farming. Social Lab took action by working with Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) to introduce biochar and city compost as sustainable alternatives—closing the urban-rural nutrient loop and unlocking new business opportunities. Our work went beyond theory—we tested real models, engaged FPOs, and laid the foundation for long-term adoption. This project was in collaboration with ProSoil project under the GIZ India. Anirudha Pandav spearheaded the project for us! CBAM is a policy introduced by the European Union to monitor and reduce the carbon emissions of their imports. It mandates that Indian exporters submit the quarterly CBAM monitoring report. The CBAM reporting process follows four key steps. 1. Factory Process Mapping: The first step involves mapping the factory's processes, including product types, machinery, and fuels used. 2. Identifying Relevant Data Points: The necessary data points for emission calculations are identified, including product data, raw material (precursor) data, and fuel and electricity consumption data. 3. Data Collection & Verification: The required data is collected and verified to correct any inconsistencies. Emissions are then calculated as direct and indirect emissions. 4. CBAM Report Preparation: The final report is prepared as per the CBAM reporting template and seamlessly integrated with the Dubrink CBAM platform We have successfully prepared CBAM reports for six companies in the Iron, Steel, and Aluminium industries using this structured approach. Our partnership with Dubrink makes the process seamless. Stay Tuned, to know more! 40 Years of @CEE: Advancing Sustainability Through Knowledge & Action! We participated in the @Centre for Environment Education (CEE) Conference: Educating for Sustainability Action. The event brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners to shape the future of environmental education and circular economy solutions. Our Director, Rahul Juware, represented Social Lab in two key sessions: #SpecialAddress on Role of CSR in Creating Impacts in Integrated Waste Management Systems where he shared insights on how corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding can drive real impact in waste management by supporting integrated, scalable solutions. The session emphasized successful CSR-backed models and the role of multi-stakeholder partnerships in enabling waste circularity. #Panelist: Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) and Material Recovery Centers (MRCs) – The Way Forward. Rahul joined industry experts in discussing challenges and solutions in operating MRFs and MRCs, highlighting the importance of resource recovery, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), and sustainable waste management strategies to create a more efficient circular economy. As CEE marks 40 years of impactful work, we are proud to contribute to the dialogue on sustainability and waste circularity. Looking forward to collaborating with stakeholders to drive actionable solutions! 📸 Swipe through to see highlights from the conference! #CEE40 #Sustainability #WasteCircularity #CircularEconomy #MRF #EPR #CSRImpact #SocialLab
