Solar Power Up! USAID developed the Rooftop Solar Vendor Rating Program (VRP) in collaboration with CII Godrej Green Business Centre (CII-GBC). The VRP offers a robust framework for assessing a vendor's 360 degree competence, financial strength, and on-site installation quality. Through its South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP) program, USAID is actively promoting VRP in the region. Addressing the potential benefits of VRP for Sri Lanka's rooftop solar sector, SAREP organized an online workshop for officials from the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) on August 1, 2024. The workshop introduced the concept of VRP, highlighted its importance in ensuring quality, safety and performance for rooftop solar systems and discussed potential implementation challenges and solutions for rooftop solar generation data monitoring. Ms. Monali Zeya-Hazra, Regional Energy & Clean Energy Specialist, USAID/India, set the tone for the day's discussions. She highlighted the VRP being implemented in India, which aims at enhancing rooftop solar installation quality, safety and performance. She also underscored the importance of supporting Sri Lanka in developing a similar program by sharing experience from India and learnings on VRP. Mr. Ranjith Sepala, Chairman, Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority, provided valuable insights into the importance of quality in rooftop solar projects. He stressed on the need for a vendor rating program in Sri Lanka to maintain quality and safety in solar installations, given the extensive growth in rooftop solar systems. He also shared that Sri Lanka aims to install 4000 MW of rooftop solar capacity in the next few years and VRP can play an important role in ensuring quality, efficiency, and performance of these systems. By ensuring high-quality rooftop solar projects, USAID through SAREP is accelerating South Asia's transition to a clean energy future. #RooftopSolar #SolarPower #CleanEnergy #SustainableEnergy #SolarInnovation #GreenFuture USAID | USAID India | South Asia Regional Energy Hub (SAREH) | Apurva Chaturvedi | Atul Dhir | Monali Zeya-Hazra | Farah Ahmed | Namrata Mukherjee | Deepanker Bishnoi | Ranjith Sepala | Sivagurunathan Shankaran Gamini Herath | Wimal Nadeera| Sri Lanka Energy Program |Dhinali Peiris, CFA |Rozanne Croos Moraes

GESI Champions Assemble! 🌟 The 3rd CLA on GESI concluded with great success! Heartfelt thanks to all participants for fueling our journey towards a more equitable energy future in South Asia. Key insights from our speakers, Ellen Bomasang, Abt Global, and Dr. Ketevan (Keta) Chkheidze, Asian Development Bank (ADB), have enriched our understanding of Monitoring, Evaluation, and adaptation from a GESI-transformative lens. Some of the Key Takeaways include: 🔹 Mapping Metrics: 'You can improve what you can measure'. Since gender data in the energy sector, especially in the South Asian region, is scarce, it is important to collect and analyze gender-disaggregated data. 🔹Theory of Change: It is important to integrate the GESI lens to catalyze a transformative theory of change across inputs, interventions, outputs, outcomes, and impact. 🔹GESI-Transformative Evaluation Matrix: A robust and inclusive evaluation matrix emphasizes the importance of valid and reliable data. This means that data-collecting teams also need to be sensitized to GESI. 🔹Embedding GESI in all strategies in Developmental Organizations: It is important to incorporate gender/GESI as a perspective, rather than as a checklist. 🔹Formal & Informal Mid-term Reviews: It is important to create both formal and informal mechanisms for regular mid-term reviews to assess the performance of GESI indicators. It is necessary to pause and reflect on whether the challenges faced in the field are incorporated into the evaluation matrix, etc. Stay tuned for more initiatives in the future to sustain the GESI dialogue! #GESIImpact #CleanEnergy #InclusiveDevelopment #GenderEquality #SocialInclusion #SustainableEnergy #SouthAsia #JustTransition #Monitoring #Evaluation USAID USAID India South Asia Regional Energy Partnership (SAREP) Monali Zeya-Hazra Apurva Chaturvedi Namrata Mukherjee Farah Ahmed Nidhi Prabha, Ph.D
