Tackling antimicrobial resistance just got a major boost! The UK’s Global AMR Innovation Fund (GAMRIF) and Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP) have announced their first call for Indian innovators to tackle the silent pandemic – a growing threat that claims around 1.27 million lives annually. Building on their recent partnership, this initiative is offering up to £5.1 million in funding over next three years to support up to 15 innovative solutions. This is crucial step towards curbing AMR’S impact in India and other low- and middle-income countries. This challenge seeks to identify, support, and nurture innovations specifically aimed at combating AMR in the environment for the benefit of low and middle-income countries where the burden of drug resistance is the highest. Delighted to be asked to deliver one of the keynotes at this year’s Global Fintech Fest (GFF) taking place here in Mumbai this week. I’m also very pleased to welcome the 15 UK company delegations attending this year. Positioned as one of the world’s largest fintech conferences and with over 80,000 delegates this year, the UK is proud to once again support in the capacity of country partner which we have done since #GFF’s inception in 2020. The UK is a global leader in #fintech, with a thriving ecosystem renowned for innovation in digital banking, payment systems, blockchain technology and more. This strong foundation makes the UK a natural partner for India – one of the fastest-growing fintech markets globally. Many UK companies have already found success in India through expansions in the micro, small, and medium enterprises sector. And London, in particular, has a rich history of supporting Indian companies through its equity and debt markets, making it an attractive destination for companies seeking global exposure. The London Stock Exchange also awaits a new generation of Indian issuers. Reflecting on the discussions and engagements at #GFF24, the outlook for greater UK-India collaboration in the Fintech sector is very positive.
