At the end of 2023, we piloted the ‘GRE Clinic’ to bring together seekers and providers of information. These clinics were conceptualised as an important channel through which we realise the goals of the Green Rural Economy platform — a consortium-led initiative that aims to make knowledge more discoverable and accessible, and thus improve the state of livelihoods in rural India and address challenges related to land and water sustainability. Over half a year on, we decided to take stock and see just how effective these clinics have been in fostering impactful collaborations between various organisations dedicated to sustainable rural development. In this blog, Lakshmi Pranuti Choppakatla details two cases that illustrate how the GRE Clinics facilitated partnerships: https://bit.ly/3Niv0JL Tarun Bharat Sangh Lipok Social Foundation Buzz Women Solid Waste Management Roundtable ( SWMRT)

How do we measure the success of lake restoration projects? Who determines the use value and restoration objectives for urban lakes? The answers to these questions are crucial, as the scale and nature of interventions depend on these targets. These targets, in turn, are shaped by the needs of various stakeholders and the availability of financial resources. To address this, the Water and Society Programme, in collaboration with the Centre for Policy Design at ATREE, recently organized a workshop aimed at critically analyzing the draft DPR guidelines proposed by the KTCDA. The goal is to identify gaps and develop comprehensive, actionable guidelines for effective lake restoration. Occurrences of extreme events are increasing in frequency due to #climatechange, wreaking havoc in urban and peri-urban areas. #UrbanIndia, which is expected to host nearly half of the country’s population by 2035, will have to learn to adapt to changing conditions and recover swiftly from such shocks. This means that all stakeholders will have to prioritise integration of blue (lakes and wetlands) and green (parks and open spaces) infrastructure with the existing grey infrastructure, write Radhika Sundaresan and Namitha Nayak.
