It's here!!!!! Proud to share with you all, our Godrej DEi Lab ka first-ever podcast, India Included - with me, your host - and of course we are Maed in India ;-) For our first episode, I spoke to two of my favourite people in the world. Apoorv Kulkarni and Nidhi Goyal. But before I tell you about them, a story about me. A couple of months ago, I tried to get out of bed one day and couldn’t. I had torn a disc in my back, and the pain was like nothing I’ve ever known. Forget the kitchen or the bathroom: I couldn’t get to my front door to open it when help arrived. It took days of agony lying flat on the bed, weeks of doctor appointments and meds, and months of physiotherapy before I could resume something like my normal life.    I’m much better now. But while lying in bed, and suffering (3 rings remember, engagement ring, wedding ring and suffering!), I relearned the fact that disability - whether permanent or temporary - doesn’t come with an on/off switch. We make our environments accessible – our offices, homes, meeting spaces, our public spaces – for all of us, because we will all encounter disability at some point in our life, whether it’s through age, or injury, or something else.   If all of this makes you think about ramps and Braille buttons – amazing. But what I’m also talking about is also a shift in mindsets that allows us to co-create an equal ground, so that people with disabilities can not only co-exist, but have the opportunities to flourish that so many non-disabled people take for granted. We talk a lot about “reasonable accommodations” for people with disabilities – that’s a legal term for how to retrofit an unfriendly environment so it can be accessed by all. But what if we could go beyond this? What if we could stop seeing accessibility as a solution for one set of people, and as a way of life for everyone?    I am so glad I got to discuss these questions, and many more, with my friends Nidhi and Apoorv.
