This year the innovation team at BdSound attended three conferences: ICASSP, AES-Automotive Audio and Interspeech. Five people out of six who attended the conferences started their career in BdSound with their master thesis in AI+DSP topics (or, sometimes, DSP-only topics), from the very first student I supervised at BdSound in 2019 (now he's a senior engineer), to a junior engineer who was hired in early 2023. The 2024 International Audio Engineering Society AES Conference on Automotive Audio was a really great and rewarding experience. The automotive audio space is one of the most exciting segments of the industry currently, with so many #audioinnovations and convergence of cutting-edge audio and acoustic technologies. The Gothenburg conference exceeded all expectations in terms of content and ideas presented, and the outstanding car demos, every single one delivering unique experiences, with many technologies and systems to discover. #Immersiveaudio in the car is now an inherent part of the journey in electric vehicles, paving the way to improve every other audio system/application. Great to see so many different approaches in transducers, and seeing the progress in the use of headrests. Great progress in active acoustics converging with creative uses of DSP, car communications and new noise cancelling technologies. I'm particularly impressed for the high emotional level of the listening experiences that these demonstrations showcase (and the different approaches), turning the vehicle into a new unique way to enjoy and live with audio. #DolbyAtmos in the car absolutely rocks!
