𝑹𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒂: 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒔 𝑩𝒊𝒐𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓'𝒔 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒃𝒊𝒐𝒈𝒂𝒔 𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒄 𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 Genesis Biopartner, a leading company in the biogas sector, has recently inaugurated one of the largest biogas plants for the production of 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞. The state-of-the-art facility can process up to 𝟓𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 from supermarkets, retail, hotels and restaurants, that is transformed into biogas. The biogas feeds two cogenerators that produce 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲. A virtuous model, as well as an important point of reference for the local community of farmers, which are supplied with 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫! 𝑨𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒆𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒊𝒄 𝒅𝒊𝒈𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 How is it possible to match AI with an anaerobic digestion plant? Michael Short, Senior Lecturer at the University of Surrey is conducting a project where artificial intelligence is used to optimize the productivity of biogas plants, particularly in the anaerobic digestion (AD) phase. AI tools, combined with mechanistic models and mass balances, improve 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. In this interview with Richard Kennedy, CEO at Carbon AMS - a developer of anaerobic digestion plants in Ireland - we discuss the development of the biogas and biomethane sector in the country. La 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 ha deciso di puntare sulla ricerca, affidando ad Invernizzi AGRI Lab SDA Bocconi un progetto mirato all'analisi delle politiche comunitarie e nazionali. L'obiettivo? Capire come queste influenzino le aziende agricole e trasformarle da semplici adempimenti normativi in strumenti concreti per promuovere la crescita sostenibile, sia dal punto di vista ambientale che economico. 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐫𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 Instead of burning agricultural residues, which contribute to pollution, these can be converted into 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐚𝐬, creating economic development in rural areas and facilitating the achievement of the NetZero target by 2070.
