There’s something magical about Chapeaux already as it is: a diffuser seemingly floating on air, supported by a nearly invisible body. But through British illustrator Jim Stoten’s playful vision, the Foscarini lamp transforms into a portal to an ever-changing, experiential dimension. This loop is part of the new What’s in a Lamp? series—eager to see more? Stoten’s hypnotic, kaleidoscopic, infinite-zooming animations draw inspiration from the unique aesthetic and design story of six Foscarini lamps, and invite you to lose yourself in their intricate details and layered narratives. Thriving on spontaneity, Stoten lets ideas flow naturally, blending playfulness with depth. “I try not to overthink. I want my work to feel intuitive, playful—like an endless discovery in progress.” This sense of free-flowing exploration shines through in his series, where each animation pulls you deeper into the artist's vivid vision, offering a psychedelic adventure through light and design. Artist, graphic designer, and curator Giona Maiarelli joins our What's in a Lamp? editorial project, where international artists are invited to reinterpret light and Foscarini lamps through their unique perspectives. Maiarelli’s series blends Italian culture with American pop imagery, using collage—a medium shaped by randomness and serendipity. His work brings Foscarini’s iconic lamps into a world of vintage imagery drawn from magazines, books, and photographs, placing them within the framework of the American myth, with accents that are at times playful and ironic, and at other times evocatively romantic. Caboche takes on the elegance of a circular jewel paired with American water towers, Spokes evokes the tangled electric chaos where birds find rest, and Chouchin nods to the American fascination with extraterrestrial life. Then there’s Aplomb, Binic, and Nuée, each evoking something entirely unique. Which one speaks to you the most? Meet Hoba, the latest outcome of the years-long research on blown glass conducted by Ludovica Serafini + Roberto Palomba in collaboration with Foscarini. Its shape feels familiar—a timeless sphere of opaque glass—yet it's anything but ordinary: unexpected textures of bumps and soft depressions disrupt the surface, adding an organic, tactile twist. This new family of lamps blends the elegance of classic design with the bold, organic forms of nature. Produced through a distinctive industrial process, Hoba embodies the perfect imperfection typically associated with handcrafted objects and with its asymmetrical, organic shape, it makes a striking addition to contemporary interiors, where it casts a warm, welcoming light. As ethereal as air and shaped like clay—forged by fire and cooled by water—Hoba feels like an object in continuous evolution, shaped by time and sublimely close to the heart. Discover the perfect imperfection of HOBA, designed by Ludovica Serafini + Roberto Palomba. https://lnkd.in/dTGuZSsj

How do you fit an entire story into a matchbox? Just ask Antje Damm, the latest artist to join Foscarini’s “What’s in a Lamp?” editorial project. Using the tiny space of a matchbox, she creates whole universes where each lamp tells its own tale. "Lamps are not merely sources of light; they are sculptures that enhance our living spaces. The challenge and joy of this project lay in capturing the essence of each lamp within the confined space of a matchbox. Each scene conveys a story, a feeling, and the unique character of the lamp." explains the artist. Celebrated for her children’s books, Antje Damm brings her distinctive artistic vision to the project by masterfully crafting these miniature dioramas. Curious to learn more? Our portable table lamp, Fleur, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni, has been selected as the winner in the "Most Illuminating Lighting" category at the Wallpaper* Smart Space Awards! Now in its fourth edition, this award celebrates excellence in home design, highlighting projects that combine creativity, innovation, sustainability, simplicity, and style. The judges were impressed by Fleur’s ability to combine two distinct functions—the natural one of providing light and the unexpected one of holding fresh flowers—“with such style,” recognizing Fleur as a design piece that meets the growing demand for flexibility, aesthetic appeal, and functionality.
