GA Knowledge | EU Flash News The new March 2025 issue of "EU Flash News" is now available online. In its first 100 days, the von der Leyen 2.0 Commission has taken decisive steps to strengthen the EU’s economic resilience, security, and global influence. Against a backdrop of geopolitical uncertainty, it has advanced key trade agreements with Switzerland, Mexico, and Mercosur while reigniting negotiations with Malaysia and Caricom. Security has emerged as a defining priority. With the €800 billion REARM Europe package and the establishment of the EU’s first Security College, the Commission is laying the groundwork for a more autonomous and coordinated defense strategy. At the same time, in response to escalating trade tensions, the EU has announced countermeasures to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum, imposing €26 billion in reciprocal duties set to take effect on April 13. Meanwhile, on migration, a new strategy aims to streamline return procedures, enhancing their efficiency and ensuring a more unified approach across Member States. As the EU navigates an increasingly complex global landscape, these initiatives reflect a clear ambition: to position Europe as a stronger, more competitive, and strategically autonomous global actor. GA Knowledge | State Aid in the Energy Sector 🌱On 26 February 2025, the Commission adopted the Communication on The Clean Industrial Deal: A joint roadmap for competitiveness and decarbonisation. This Framework seeks to accompany the Clean Industrial Deal by setting out how Member States can design State aid measures to support their objectives related to the Clean Industrial Deal. 🌍The Commission announced in the Clean Industrial Deal Communication its intention to simplify State aid rules by adopting a new Clean Industrial Deal State aid Framework to accelerate the roll-out of renewable energy, deploy industrial decarbonisation and ensure sufficient capacity of clean tech manufacturing in Europe. 📢With this consultation, the Commission seeks the views of relevant stakeholders on a draft for this framework to be adopted by June 2025. The draft takes action on incentives for renewables, electricity storage and capacity markets, incentives for decarbonizing industry, green industry, and reducing the risks of private investment in these sectors. In some cases, incentives may be awarded directly to projects without the need for auctions. All stakeholders are invited to submit their comments, and GA's Public Affair team is ready to support them and their interests.
