The war in southern Lebanon has now spread throughout the country. Since the first days of the escalation, we have been supporting thousands of fleeing Lebanese and Syrian refugee families, distributing basic necessities, rehabilitating shelters, and providing psychological support to those who have lost everything. From September to date, we have helped 27,500 people. https://lnkd.in/db6NRCZE

«Aveva 29 anni quando gli ho affidato la prima missione in Afghanistan. Lui traduceva in termini concreti il principio assunto come titolo della Carta dei valori di Intersos: "Sono un essere umano. Nessun essere umano mi è estraneo"» Il nostro presidente emerito, Nino Sergi, su Vita ricorda Marco Rotelli, ex segretario generale e presidente di Intersos, scomparso improvvisamente qualche giorno fa. https://lnkd.in/dCczbY_U

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news of the sudden passing of Marco Rotelli, INTERSOS’ former Secretary General and President. This sudden loss has come as a shock to us all. Marco was a pillar of our organisation and helped to trace and consolidate the path we continue to follow. His contribution was invaluable. From Afghanistan, where he began his journey with INTERSOS in the early 2000s, to his role as Secretary General and then, until 2022, as President. For all of us, Marco was much more than a colleague. He represented the soul of INTERSOS, bringing dedication, integrity and a clear vision that guided us, even in the most difficult moments. At this time, our thoughts go to his family, to his wife and our former colleague Anna, and to his son, to whom we send our sympathy. We will miss you immensely. https://lnkd.in/dFF36t6p

This gathering aimed to strengthen collaboration and enhance the provision of integrated healthcare services and support to migrant communities in Italy, Malta, and Greece. A valuable opportunity to share best practices through field visits and roundtable discussions, focusing on common goals and expanding the positive impact of the project. Economic, legal, and cultural barriers often complicate access to healthcare for many migrants in Southern Italy, especially when it comes to the prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. Through the Reach Out Europe project, in collaboration with Maastricht and Padua Universities, we aim to change this reality. By gathering data and engaging directly with communities, we can better understand the daily challenges migrants face and make our interventions more targeted and effective, building trust and ensuring inclusive access to healthcare. https://lnkd.in/dhAKJu_N

Lebanon is now facing its worst humanitarian crisis in decades. We urgently call on the international community and responsible actors to fulfill their obligations under international law to protect civilians and prevent further harm. Specifically, we urge: - An immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon - Protection of Civilian Lives and Infrastructure - An Immediate Halt to Arbitrary Displacement Orders - Safe and Unimpeded Humanitarian Access 👇 Read our full statement 👇 https://lnkd.in/dQHZYbXq

In Lebanon, movement has become extremely challenging due to ongoing bombings and rising instability. Despite severe logistical obstacles, we have managed to provide assistance to 25,000 people. A total of 109 staff members have been forced to leave their homes, experiencing firsthand the hardship faced by the communities we support. In response, we have initiated emotional support sessions at our bases in the Bekaa Valley and the South, offering a safe space to process the traumas caused by this conflict.

This is what remains of the building where our Tyre office was located, which we left for security reasons a few months before it was destroyed in continued indiscriminate bombing of entire neighbourhoods and towns in South Lebanon. We have been working in Tyre and the South of Lebanon since 2006, and although nothing compares to the loss of human life, losing the place that our teams shared for many years is heartbreaking to us all. Nowadays, over 100 of our staff and their families are displaced by the war. The anxiety and uncertainty over what they will find once they return to their homes is difficult to describe. Civilians and civilian infrastructure, including humanitarian workers, must always be protected in accordance with International Humanitarian Law. #ceasefirenow
