How can you quantify the effect of tire wear, different #viscoelastic properties and track roughness on vehicle performance? Thanks to #RIDElab platform, it's possible to consider #data from different #track surfaces, #tire compounds and #wear level and isolate the effect of these complex phenomena on the forces exerted at the tire-road interface. Using this tool, users can quantify in a practical and direct way the optimal tire #thermal working range variation on different surfaces or how #grip changes at different wear states, identifying mathematical law able to express these dependencies within physical-analytical tire models such as the ones included in #RIDEsuite. This plays a crucial role for #motorsport application, where the teams have the possibility to include these effects within the #optimization routines and advanced tools in order to choose the best strategy considering different #compounds and road properties, and also for big #OEM, for which it's of fundamental importance to #predict vehicle’s design choice on tire tread thickness reduction.

Chi siamo
The growing need of reliable vehicle simulations for safety and performance improvement is leading academy and industry to carry out researches aimed at proposing innovative solutions able to guarantee the achievement of real-time, robust and predictive physical vehicle and tire models. MegaRide project is tightly linked to the activities carried out by the Vehicle Dynamics research group of the Department of Industrial Engineering (DII) of University of Naples Federico II, whose expertise is oriented to the development of models and procedures to be employed by vehicle manufacturers, tire developers, dynamicists and race engineers. MegaRide’s core is made of people working in a synergic environment involving both academic and industrial realities. The team diverse experiences and careers have been characterized by deep cooperation with high-profile companies and research centres. Services and products provided by MegaRide are based on an already thriving trade, structured thanks to many years of research partnerships between the research group and relevant automotive realities. MegaRide was born as a natural outcome project, thought to confer the proper value to the products of the Italian scientific research and to reinforce the still unexpressed potential of valuable academic realities. The company headquarter has been set in the Mechanics building of the Department of Industrial Engineering, where the UniNa Tyre Lab is located, in order optimize the information transfer and the logistics operations between the two institutions. At the current stage MegaRide has received, after a demanding evaluation process, the approval of the University of Naples committee for the official Spin-Off recognition.

How can autonomous vehicles #safely navigate poor #weather conditions and low-traction scenarios? The study introduces a novel real-time road #friction estimation method. By integrating a slip-slope approach with the Magic Formula #tire model, the method accurately calculates both actual and potential road #grip coefficients. Validated through co-simulations, the system optimizes #ADAS systems like Adaptive Cruise Control and Emergency Braking, significantly reducing #collision risks in adverse conditions. ⬇️

VESevo #Storyline - Chapter 4 What started in #motorsport didn’t take long to break new ground. VESevo’s technology, initially intended only for #tire analysis, can actually be applied to anything made of #polymeric materials, opening the door to countless new #industries. From racing tracks to #sports courts, we introduced data-driven insights never measured before. A prime example is our study of #padel, where we developed indicators like the Coefficient of Restitution (#COR) to measure energy return, created heatmaps to analyze material distribution, and extracted key performance data to help #manufacturers refine products and give #players deeper knowledge of their equipment. The same principles apply in #golf (ball composition) and terrain evaluation (material behavior for sports fields and infrastructure). And yes, we’ve also gone from being stopped at airport security to now helping #aviation safety checks monitor the lifespan of airplane tires! ✈️😆
