HZI and Schmack Biogas Srl to Deliver Innovative Biogas Technology Solution in Spain 🇪🇸
Schmack Biogas Srl, part of Hitachi Zosen Inova, has been selected by AGR BIOGÁS to deliver its first anaerobic digestion plant in La Calahorra, Spain.
This project is a major milestone for the country, as it will be the first plant of its kind in Spain to utilise Schmack Biogas’s Euco Titan anaerobic digestion technology.
Once operational, the plant will treat 140,000 tonnes of olive pomace and agricultural waste annually, and produce up to 10 million Nm3 of biogas, which will be upgraded by the client to biomethane, contributing to a cleaner energy future.
This is also the first new contract for Schmack Biogas since joining the HZI family, marking the beginning of many more exciting developments in the Spanish renewable gas market.
Construction will begin on 1 October 2024, and the plant is expected to be fully operation in 21 months.
As Daniel Dreier, HZI’s EVP of Waste to X & Renewable Gas Plants, said: "This is the first AD project of its type and will unlock the development of further biogas and biomethane facilities across Spain in the years to come."
