We hosted the second simulation event of Cyber Security Awareness Month today with Jersey Cyber Security Centre for Jersey's Hospitality Sector. Our industry-specific scenario gave the hospitality professionals an insight into responding to a cyber incident, with some really fantastic inputs and response plans developed. We are pleased to present Matthew Derrien, Cyber Risk Officer at Jersey Cyber Security Centre who will be sharing his expertise as part of our advisory panel during our crisis simulation event programme. “As the Cyber Risk Officer at JCSC, my role on the advisory panel is to provide expert security advice and guidance during the simulation exercises. My primary role is to assist attendees by offering advice from a cyber security expert’s perspective on how to effectively manage the specific scenario being simulated. Throughout the exercise, participants are encouraged to ask questions, which I will address to help them better understand and navigate the challenges presented. Additionally, I will provide detailed feedback to the group on how JCSC can support organisations in dealing with similar real-world scenarios. This includes providing information on best practices that can be implemented within their own organisations to enhance cyber security measures. Next month we will be hosting our crisis simulation event programme for Cyber Security Awareness Month. At each event we will have an advisory panel who will share their expertise on areas such as cybersecurity, crisis management, data protection and technical support. This month, we will be profiling each panel member and asking them to share more about their role in cyber security and the role that they will play during our simulation events. Our first panelist is Samantha Gardner, Operational Compliance and Policy Lead from the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner. "I've had the privilege of being a member on the expert advisory panel for cyber incident response simulation exercises for a couple of years, offering support and guidance from a data protection perspective. Organisations processing personal data have an obligation and duty to safeguard that information, ensuring its integrity and confidentiality. In the event of an incident, that personal data may be compromised, and the organisation may be required to report such to the Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner and possibly the individuals affected – after all, data protection is all about the people and their rights and freedoms. These exercises are invaluable, offering a practical walkthrough of potential scenarios, fostering knowledge exchange, and providing access to expert support.
