At Room XXVI, Palais des Nations, UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in Geneva hosted the 11th multi-year expert meeting this morning on #transport, #trade #logistics and #tradefacilitation. UNCTAD's Luisa Antonia Rodriguez Ortega explained their #Smart #Sustainable #Port project (SSP) supported by a remote intervention by IAPH's Victor Shieh on establishing what is needed by #ports in developing countries on #electrification, #futurefuel adoption, #energyefficiency and #onshore #power and how to accelerate realistic #financing for the #energytransition. Notably she mentioned the SSP pilot work with #MauritiusPortsAuthority for its #cruise terminal project. Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA)'s Minerva Lim and Tanger Med (Official Account) - TMSA's Hicham KHAROUFI also explained their work on decarbonisation, notably MPA's work in energy corridors with Japan and Australia and in pilot bunkering new fuels such as #ammonia, and Tanger Med's successful implementation of #PortCallOptimization measures in practice, reducing anchor waiting times by over half on average and providing measurable reductions in CO2 emissions by thousands of tonnes per year. Ghana's Wisdom Ahiataku Togobo explained the country's ambitious aims to adopt solar energy and the focus on Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority's Port of Tema to electrify operations and #decarbonise in a #sustainable manner. TrainForTrade's Gonzalo Ayala will discuss capacity building on building sustainable and resilient transport and logistics, with UNCTAD's Frida Youssef joining the discussion around #innovative #financing, which is crucial to realistic #energytransition in #maritime. #CloseTheGaps

At #IAPH2024 the annual general meeting of members was held on day three, with board and council members reporting to the membership on year accounts, technical committee activities and plans for 2025 and beyond. Samoa Ports Authority recently become the 190th regular member to join IAPH, adding to the graph being presented in the second picture to the AGM forum in Hamburg. In the main picture we have IAPH Managing Director Patrick Verhoeven and our board members (L-R) Eranda Kotelawala (VP, South East Asia and Oceania) of Solomon Ports, Vinicius Patel (VP Central and South America) of Porto do Açu, michael luguje (VP Africa) of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, Jens Meier (President) of Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) Anstalt öffentlichen Rechts, Gene Seroka (VP North America) of Port of Los Angeles and Masaharo Shinohara (VP Asia South / West and East , Middle East) of Kobe-Osaka International Port Corporation. Joining them is Dr Ennarasu Karunesan, PhD (Maritime) (regional representative for IAPH for the Indian Subcontinent) and IAPH Secretary General Masahiko Fuirichi. The process is underway of appointing a new VP for Europe, we thank Stéphane Raison for his contribution for his work to IAPH during his term.

Today at the board room of Port of Antwerp-Bruges port house : IAPH's Victor Shieh (in person) and DCC Chair Pascal Ollivier (remotely) took part in the APEC-Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center tailor-made course for implementing a #MaritimeSingleWindow with port executives from Port Autonome de Kribi, Port Authority of Douala, Port Authority of Cotonou, Port Autonome d'Abidjan (PAA) and Port Autonome de San Pedro. In simultaneous French and English, the ten key steps to implementing a successful MSW were discussed openly and with enthusiasm by all participants #CloseTheGaps. Thanks to Tim Michielsen and Ann Huysentruyt for coordination.
