“At Amahoro Coalition, we cannot stress enough the urgent need for the African private sector in conjunction with governments and regional bodies to work together to expand educational and employment opportunities to refugees. As the largest African convener of the private sector for social impact, and based on our field work in displaced communities across 11 African countries, we know for a fact that this works!” Isaac Kwaku F., Amahoro Coalition's Curator. Last week we hosted a business roundtable in Kigali, Rwanda that brought together private sector leaders, refugee entrepreneurs, and development partners to explore innovative ways the private sector can be a driving force in providing employment opportunities for forcibly displaced people. Together, we discussed how businesses in Rwanda can become employers of choice for refugees and boost employability and job creation in forcibly displaced communities. A big thank you to our partner Alight and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency in Rwanda for helping make this event a successful one! Would you be interested to work with us in co-creating and investing in economic opportunities for forcibly displaced people across the Continent? Join us at our next Private Sector Roundtable. At Amahoro Coalition, we believe that enabling the free flow of goods and services across Africa—and strengthening its position in global trade—depends on the free movement of people, including the 44 million forcibly displaced across the continent. We invite private sector leaders, including those participating in the African Private Sector Roundtable at #BiasharaAfrika2024, powered by African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat to join us in creating market-based solutions for displaced communities and unlocking breakthrough opportunities for all!

I am reflecting on an incredible week spent in Kigali, Rwanda, with our second cohort of fellows for the The Amahoro Coalition Fellowship program. We are very excited to welcome this second cohort of fellows who originate from or live in 16 different African countries. This year, female fellows make up 60% of the cohort, which is very important to us and speaks to our values as an organization. The week was full of inspiring conversations that challenged all of us to think of who we are as leaders and how we intend to use our voices and platforms to create transformative change. Personally, witnessing the optimism and active participation of our fellows in the week’s activities was incredible. Their eagerness to connect, collaborate, and support each other from the moment they met was a testament to their commitment and passion. One session that stood out for me was a discussion on leadership in the African context and what it means to embody our values and identity as young leaders on this continent. I am immensely proud of the work our fellows are doing and the impact they are making. This experience has reaffirmed our commitment to nurturing and developing the next generation of African leaders. Thank you to our guest speakers Jean Charles Kanamugire and Nelly Mukazayire, and Sara Leedom Leedom - your sessions were inspiring and insightful. This would not have been possible without our facilitators and the Amahoro fellowship team that was working hard behind the scenes to make everything work. #AmahoroFellowshipProgram

Last week, we co-hosted our first private sector roundtable in Cameroon with EUROCHAM Cameroon, focusing on investment opportunities in forcibly displaced communities. We shared our innovative approach, highlighting market-driven solutions and employment opportunities for FDPs. We were excited to see 40 business leaders express interest in integrating our clients into their current and future ventures. A special thanks to Sandra Gouadjio and Coretta Minlend for their invaluable support in organizing and hosting the event. We look forward to more impactful collaborations! Applying for The Amahoro Coalition Fellowship was like having a gun with only one bullet. If I miss the target, I will lose it forever. If I had missed the chance to get into the Fellowship this year, 2024, I would have forgotten it forever because of the age limit. Getting into the Fellowship has given me the opportunity to meet the #CEO of the Amahoro Coalition and be enlightened by his wisdom in finding solutions to Africa's problems. Isaac Kwaku F. emphasised that before we can say we have the human capital in Africa, we need to have more tertiary graduates in Africa. For him, education may not be everything, but it is so important to have knowledge. During the conversation, he challenged us that if we are not willing to invest in our businesses, who else is going to invest in? or if we don't want to write our own stories, then someone else will write them in their own ways and own them. Isaac Kwaku F. 's sense of humility is unparalleled, having provided technical business advice to over 400 companies and governments across Africa, America and Europe, he still believes that the people around him are better than him and is humble enough to learn from them. He wants us in the fellowship to develop Amahoro types that are better than his and establish companies that will employ thousands of people beyond our camp settings.
