We were in the coastal city of Mombasa for this year’s International Construction Research Conference and Exhibition (ICoRCE). ICoRCE is organized by the National Construction Authority (NCA) and plays an important role in the growth and development of research in the construction industry. In his presentation on Sustainability in Construction – a Bamburi Cement perspective, our Commercial Director Martin J Kariuki articulated our sustainability ambitions – which include our innovative green cement portfolio, their durability and sustainability impact on large infrastructure projects. Significantly, he highlighted the potential impacts of substandard cements in the market, that include; ~Vertically integrated quality degradation – repercussions on construction concrete ~Collapse of building and structures ~Unfair trade competition Our proposal on substandard products mitigation is a collaborative approach of public and private sector construction stakeholders to restore sanity in the market. #BamburiCement

Once again, we are honored to be involved in the ongoing construction of the Talanta Sports City on Nairobi's Ngong Road, which is expected to become another iconic piece of infrastructure. The $350 million sports complex includes a FIFA-accredited 60,000-seat stadium (intended for football and rugby) and athletic grounds built next to it. It is Kenya’s biggest stadium project in 37 years. When finished by December 2025, it will be part of Kenya's host stadium for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, a tri-state host event that will take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The project is being undertaken by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) under the supervision of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Ministry of Sports. As the project's preferred cement supplier, we have been supplying Powerplus Cement since April this year for the project's foundation work, and we will subsequently begin providing Duracem Cement—the greenest cement in Kenya —for the remaining construction phases. Adding this magnificent sports infrastructure project to our portfolio of Kenya's infrastructure-building contribution is another feather in our cap. It is proof of and validation of our tried-and-tested high-quality cement. Our CEO Mohit Kapoor, Commercial and Bamburi Special Products (BSP) team visited the site to witness the progress. #BamburiCement

Our CEO and Kenya Association of Manufacturer's Cement sub-sector Chairman Mohit Kapoor and Commercial Director Martin J Kariuki joined KAM leadership in a courtesy call to Anti-Counterfeit Authority- Kenya (ACA) Executive Director/CEO Dr. Robi Mbugua. The meeting addressed counterfeit issues plaguing the cement sub-sector and ways to arrest it... #BamburiCement

KAM Advocates for Cement Industry Protection Against Counterfeiting Today, the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), led by Head of Policy Research and Advocacy, Job Wanjohi Muriithi, HSC, paid a courtesy call to Anti-Counterfeit Authority - Kenya (ACA) Executive Director/CEO, Dr Robi Mbugua. The discussion centered on addressing challenges faced by cement manufacturers due to counterfeiting activities. Kenya is home to 4 clinker manufacturers with an annual production capacity exceeding 11 million metric tonnes (MT), alongside 9 cement manufacturers producing over 14 million MT per annum. Together, the sector directly employs more than 10,000 people. Key issues of concern include: 🎯Cement adulteration in areas like Athi River, where there has been a persistent rise in the sale of substandard cement products. 🎯Clinker counterfeiting, where fake clinker - a key raw material in cement manufacturing - is being sold to cement grinders. These practices severely impact the cement industry and the broader construction sector by introducing low-quality products into the market. Since price is often the primary consideration for consumers, there is a risk that substantial volumes of inferior cement will circulate. To address this, KAM proposed the following interventions to the ACA: 🎯A crackdown on individuals involved in cement adulteration in Athi River. 🎯A collaborative effort between the ACA, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the National Police Service - Kenya to curb illegal activities. The Anti-Counterfeit Authority - Kenya (ACA) committed to engaging like-minded partners to conduct operations targeting the production and sale of substandard, underweight, and counterfeit cement products. They also encouraged hosting brand owners' engagements to raise awareness on product training and the importance of protecting intellectual property rights. KAM remains dedicated to preserving the integrity of Kenya’s cement industry and safeguarding the construction sector from the damaging effects of counterfeiting.

As Kenya's leading and preferred building materials manufacturer, we are privileged to contribute to the country's ongoing socioeconomic growth through infrastructure. We paid a visit to the Mwache Multipurpose Dam contractors, Sinohydro Corporation and Engineering of China, in the village of Fulugani, Kwale County to witness their progress and build fruitful collaborative working relationship. Our Powerplus Cement will be used to construct the Sh.20billion Mwache Multipurpose Dam project by the Kenyan government, that will cover an area of 250,000 hectares and feature an 87.5 m high concrete gravity dam. The dam lake will retain 118 million m3 of water, increasing water security and climate resilience in Kwale, Mombasa, and Kilifi counties impacting over 2 million people. #BamburiCementPlc #BuildingProgressforPeopleandPlanet
