We have launched the Nachu Green Village Model designed to enhance food security, improve nutrition, and strengthen environmental resilience in Kiambu County. In attendance, The Chief Guest, Peter Ndegwa, The County Secretary from Kiambu County Government, representing the CEC for Agriculture and Environmental Conservation, highlighted the alignment of this initiative with national and county-level sustainability goals: “The Nachu Green Village Model supports Kenya’s Vision 2030 and our county’s commitment to environmental sustainability. By integrating environmental technologies, this project contributes to a greener future while creating economic opportunities for our people. We look forward to this initiative thriving and inspiring other communities nationwide.” Our goal is to create meaningful change by promoting green jobs specifically for 680 women and 400 youth, advancing environmental conservation efforts, planting 20,000 drought-resilient trees and engaging 1,200 children in environmental conservation. This initiative will also offer essential resources, skills training, and farm management support in collaboration with ChildFund Kenya, the Kiambu County Government, Jawabu Biashara Limited, and other partners.

What comes to mind when you see a police officer in uniform? Authority? Protection? Intimidation? Now, imagine you're a child in distress, at a police station, reporting a case of abuse. Would you feel safe enough to open up? At Kathwana Police Station in Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya, where cases of abuse, including female genital mutilation (#FGM) and #childmarriage are rampant, we meet Constable Glory Mukami, a Gender and Children's Officer. Instead of a uniform, she wears casual clothes. "Children fear when they see the police. The uniform scares them. They can only open up, speak the truth, and share the whole story when they feel safe and comfortable. That’s why I dress this way. Now they see me like their mother or an auntie." The environment matters. "Having a child-friendly space where the children can play as we talk builds trust. It helps them open up and talk about what they have gone through." “Initially when we would interview our children, they could not give the information in full.
