🌍 The Thrill of Recognition: Reflections on the Ecowarriors Award There is always a thrill and excitement that comes with winning an award—whether it’s your child completing their first grade, finishing first in a race, or winning a prize at the mall, that burst of energy is undeniable, even if fleeting. One award that has held a meaningful place in my life for nearly seven years is the #EcowarriorsAward. It is an annual recognition for tourism industry players excelling in sustainable practices in Kenya, judged by a panel that values genuine action. It’s not about saying what you are doing but truly doing what you say. As the Chair of Ecotourism Kenya, I have come to feel the week leading up to the gala as both exhilarating and daunting. Hosting means dressing up and playing the part: welcoming dignitaries, smiling and shaking hands with each winner. While I can sometimes dread the formality, by the end of the night, it always feels worth it. Just two weeks ago, at the 17th #EcowarriorsAward in Nairobi, I was reminded once again of why this event is so important. Why the Ecowarriors Award Matters In an era of rapid #climate change, our industry has a role to play in raising awareness and safeguarding our planet. This year, our theme embraced the full breadth of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). Beyond the usual focus on SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 15 (Life on Land), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), it underscored the broad-reaching impact of tourism on sustainable development. Each award recipient exemplifies a commitment to conserving natural resources, protecting biodiversity, building climate resilience, and minimizing environmental impact. Their work sets a standard, demonstrating that environmental stewardship and commercial success not only can coexist but can also reinforce one another. Beyond recognition, the Ecowarriors Award is a call to action, reminding each industry player to ask, “How can we contribute to a sustainable future?” In honoring our Ecowarriors, we aim to inspire change toward an industry where responsible tourism is no longer exceptional but rather the standard. Here’s to championing an industry-wide movement toward sustainability, one Ecowarrior at a time. 🌱 #SustainableTourism #EcowarriorsAward #ClimateAction #ResponsibleTourism #SDGs Ecotourism Kenya UN Tourism https://lnkd.in/dk3PpfVs
