    Co-Founder, CEO at Uncover

It's finally here! Uncover's latest drop and a solution to the number one skincare concern for women of color: hyperpigmentation i.e. dark spots. The data spoke clearly that this was a huge pain point, it was affecting confidence and the current products in the market were not supporting our community in solving it. Our scientists (women of color themselves) shared that dark spots are more common and stubborn in melanin-rich skin and the ingredients needed to fight this concern needed to be specifically designed for darker skin. So here it is - a result of data, innovation, customer-obsessedness and community. Three years in the making, three factories later, multiple iterations, 7 powerhouse active ingredients, and a final product that works. We are excited to launch the Licorice Root Dark Spot Serum in Kenya & Nigeria on September 4th. We knew we had a winner when the results from the focus group showed that 96% of participants seeing a reduction in the appearance of their hyperpigmentation.

We are thrilled to announce that Chui Ventures has invested in Uncover, a community-driven African skincare brand that believes no woman should lose confidence in her skin! Uncover stands out in the competitive skincare market, which ranges from indigenous low-cost brands to multinational luxury products. Present in both Nigeria and Kenya, Uncover navigates these similar skincare markets by focusing on facial skincare products and distinguishing itself through quality and community engagement. We invested in Uncover because of their deep involvement in the formulation process, sourcing African botanical ingredients, and conducting tests on African skin tones to tailor their products effectively. Additionally, their products are crafted by world-class Korean manufacturers with global standards. Our journey with Uncover began in 2022 when we had our first call with the founders. We became loyal customers of their products, especially the famous Aloe Invisible Sunscreen and Baobab Glow C Serum. We are now excited to invest in the brand, co-founded by Sneha Mehta, CFA, and Jade Oyateru, MBA, as it enters its new phase of growth! Join us in celebrating this exciting journey with Uncover! https://lnkd.in/dquhEk6u #Uncover #AfricanInnovation #VentureCapital

"The Cost of Mediocrity" challenges the notion that in tough times the ‘safe’ option is best. Sometimes the pressure to deliver results quickly ends up as uniform mediocrity, with global ideas being applied locally, missing the nuance of market context. On this continent, being comfortable with codes that are 'handed down' is one of the biggest risks a brand can take.   Kenyan-born skincare brand Uncover, is a fantastic example of breaking the codified norms of the category to bring solutions made for the beautiful African skin. They dared to challenge the incumbent thinking that skincare has to be complicated, clinical, impersonal and ‘western’ in order to be good. From their visual language, product formulation and community-focused engagement style - they’re on a mission to demystify all things skincare, making it healthy, easy, and empowering to care for African skin. - Nomonde Keswa, Strategy Director at Delta Victor Bravo (eatbigfish is brought to you in Africa by Delta Victor Bravo).
