Amman: “Perseverance despite Genocide” symposium to support children in Palestine The Palestinian Network for Early Childhood Development in cooperation with the Arab Network for Early Childhood invite you to a symposium titled “Perseverance despite Genocide. Young children under crisis and war”, which will be held in Amman, Jordan on July 30 and 31, 2024. Organized by "Juzoor for Health and Social Development", the symposium gathers national, regional, and international stakeholders to address the profound impact of the ongoing crisis and war on young children in Palestine, particularly in Gaza strip and the West Bank. It also aims to highlight the current situation of young children in Palestine, include lessons learned and transfer of effective practices, in addition to mobilizing solidarity and advocacy for Children, highlighting anticipated Long-term Impact, and engaging international partners and donors. 2023: A Record Year for Displacement of the World's Children and the Crisis is Worsening Gaza, Sudan, Syria, and Somalia Top the List With the intensification of conflicts, disputes, persecution, violence, and human rights violations, the end of 2023 recorded a historic high in the number of forcibly displaced people, both internally and externally, reaching 117.3 million individuals. While children (under 17 years old) constitute 30% of the world's population, they comprise 40% of all forcibly displaced persons globally. #Sudan, #Gaza, #Somalia, and #Syria topped the list of countries that experienced forced displacement over the past year, and they continue to live in this state to this day. The First Annual Conference on Mental Health and Early Childhood: The Arab Resource Collective held the "First Annual Conference on Mental Health and Early Childhood" in Lebanon, in collaboration with the Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS) on July 18th. The conference took place at the university's building in Beirut, and was attended by a group of researchers and specialists in early childhood and mental health fields from several countries. The participants discussed the challenges and future prospects of early childhood and mental health issues in the context of crises, and they shared their extensive research, experiences, and expertise in this field. Children in Armed Conflicts in Arab Countries: 2023: A Bloody Year with Escalating Violations The world is currently witnessing the highest number of armed conflicts since World War II. The #Arab region, being a hotspot for genocides and wars—most recently in #Gaza, #Sudan, and #Somalia—has #children bearing the brunt of severe violations of their rights. These include killings, maiming, starvation, sexual exploitation, sexual assaults, displacement, recruitment, and attacks on schools and hospitals, among other grave breaches of the "Convention on the Rights of the Child.” Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/d3tBWtxp
