I recently had the privilege of participating in the COP29 Simulation, hosted by The British University in Egypt, and it was truly an eye-opening experience! 🌍 It reinforced my belief in the incredible potential we, as youth, have in contributing sustainable solutions to the ongoing climate crisis. Seeing firsthand how our voices, ideas, and energy can shape the future of climate policy has been both inspiring and empowering. Throughout the simulation, I served as the Head of Delegation for Nigeria, which pushed me to dive deep into my country’s climate challenges, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and our position in international climate negotiations, particularly within the G77 coalition. This role not only expanded my understanding of Nigeria's efforts to combat climate change but also made me more attuned to the pressing issues shared by many developing countries in their climate adaptation and mitigation efforts. Even though I have never attended an actual COP before, this simulation has given me a solid grasp of the UNFCCC framework and COP processes, and I now feel confident that I can actively contribute to real COP negotiations if given the opportunity. I have learned the intricacies of drafting and amending decision texts, navigating complex climate policies, and working collaboratively with other nations to push forward solutions that balance development with sustainability. This experience was a deep dive into how climate diplomacy works, and it made me realize the amount of work and research that goes into defending a country’s interests while still contributing to the global fight against climate change. The insights gained during this simulation will stay with me, driving me to further engage in climate advocacy and action, both within Nigeria and globally. As I reflect on this journey, I am more determined than ever to be part of future COPs and make meaningful contributions to the global climate agenda. With my growing knowledge of the UNFCCC processes, Nigeria’s climate strategy, and international negotiation tactics, I am excited about the role I can play in the real world to foster sustainable development and climate resilience. 🌾🚜 Supporting Sustainable Agriculture and Fishing Communities in Sri Lanka 🐟🌿 I am Excited to share the latest updates from Sri Lanka's new administration under President Anura Kumara Disanayake, aimed at bolstering our agricultural and fishing sectors. These initiatives are pivotal in advancing sustainable practices and supporting our farmers and fishermen. 1. Enhanced Fertilizer Subsidy: Starting October 1, the government will provide a significant boost to our paddy farmers by increasing the fertilizer subsidy to Rs. 25,000 per hectare for the upcoming Maha Season of 2024/25. This proactive step not only ensures timely support but also underscores our commitment to sustainable farming practices. 2. Fuel Subsidy for Fishermen: In a bid to empower our fishing communities, a new fuel subsidy will be implemented from October 1. This subsidy, directly deposited into fishermen's bank accounts monthly, aims to reduce production costs and enhance the viability of our fishing industry. 3. Commitment to Sustainability: These measures are part of our broader commitment to managing agricultural inputs effectively and providing them at reasonable prices. By supporting both chemical( Not Much Agree) and organic fertilizers, we align with global agricultural best practices while fostering sustainable farming methods. 4. Economic Impact: Agriculture forms the backbone of our economy, and supporting our farmers is crucial for our nation's growth. These initiatives not only aim to improve productivity but also to enhance the livelihoods of those working in agriculture and fishing. I commend #President Anura Kumara Disanayake for these proactive steps towards a sustainable and prosperous future for SriLanka. LET'S WAIT AND SEE WHAT WILL HAPPEN.... Those Things Gonna Implement or Not. Let's continue to support our #farmers and #fishermen as they play a vital role in shaping our nation's #economic landscape. #SustainableAgriculture #FishingCommunities #EconomicDevelopment #SriLanka #SupportFarmers #AgriculturalPolicy
