It’s official! VoiceMed and Humanitas Research Hospital have launched their second clinical study to advance the VoiceMed Lung Test from proof of concept to prototype through the use of vocal biomarkers. In this study, Humanitas Research Hospital will recruit 1,000 patients scheduled for a traditional spirometry test and conduct the VoiceMed test alongside it. This collaboration will allow VoiceMed to enhance its dataset, algorithms, and technology, strengthening the correlation between our Lung Test and conventional spirometry metrics. Doctor Francesca Puggioni, Capo Sezione Clinico Organizzativo Immuno Center at Humanitas, is sharing: "the project we are carrying out with VoiceMed and their sophisticated technology is exciting because it is versatile and truly patient-oriented. There could be many clinical applications: for example, remote monitoring of patients with a known diagnosis, or general population screening projects for respiratory diseases. It is essential that technology is not an end in itself but is oriented towards sustainable medicine: the objective must be to reduce the patient's disease burden by making monitoring more streamlined, provide healthcare personnel with technologies that facilitate the acquisition of clinical data and, in this case, also sustainable for the environment because it could reduce the need for control at the hospital by promoting telemedicine” About the Lung Test: Patients perform a series of breathing and voice tasks in front of their smartphone, allowing VoiceMed’s algorithm to analyze acoustic signals and measure lung function, similar to spirometry (e.g., FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC parameters). We did it again! It’s official, VoiceMed has launched a third clinical study, this time with Ospedale San Camillo Forlanini—Italy’s top public hospital for pneumology and cardiology (according to 2024 Newsweek report). This new study will recruit 10,000 patients, creating the biggest vocal biomarker dataset clinically labelled! With this large-scale study, our goal is to enhance the precision of our vocal biomarker technology and improve our lung health product from PoC to medical device. Working alongside San Camillo Forlanini, we’re excited to push the boundaries of proactive respiratory care and make it available to everyone. We often look at what is missing and what we don't have compared to other companies, but it is sometimes important to stop and look at our journey, and today I am reflecting on the 2024 journey at VoiceMed. The 2024 was a year we won't forget: our first paid pilot, our first invoice! We saw our innovation inside one healthcare provider app, and many of his clients using it! From a deep tech startup perspective, spending a long time in research and development, this is one of the most exciting moments! #WomenEntrepreneurship in HealthTech I’ve always loved challenges, and that’s what drove me to start VoiceMed as a young woman in tech. But I envision a future where everyone has equal opportunity, where the barriers aren't about gender but about the drive to innovate and make a difference. This is why I teach Healthcare Innovation at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, sharing the entrepreneurial journey through my experiences. My hope is to inspire the next generation to take on this journey—especially women, who bring valuable perspectives to tech and healthcare. I began my career in social entrepreneurship. A trip to Peru sparked in me an urgency to help in any way I could. I felt incredibly fortunate to have been born in a place that gave me opportunities others were unfairly denied. As soon as I had the chance, I returned to South America to work with a local NGO. When I came back to Italy, I found myself drawn to tech consulting, and later, I was fortunate to win a Fulbright program to Silicon Valley. It was there that I realized how new technologies could provide scalable solutions to big problems like healthcare accessibility. That realization was the foundation for creating VoiceMed. Yesterday, during the CERprize- Internet Entrepreneurs Prize award ceremony, I was reminded of that inspiration. Connecting with other entrepreneurs who are striving to change the world as we are at VoiceMed was incredibly moving.
