Enhancing Preparedness for Climate Change Impacts UNDP supported the Libyan Meteorological Centre (LNMC) to enhance its capabilities through a 10-day strategic on-site study tour for 15 LNMC members in Morocco. This South-South Cooperation, which UNDP facilitated at the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) in Casablanca, focused on advanced weather forecasting techniques, climate data management, and air and maritime alert warning systems. Improving the abilities of the center is a key component of a broader UNDP Climate Change project aimed at strengthening Libya's preparedness for climate impacts generously funded by the European Union. This initiative focuses on strengthening the LNMC's capability to anticipate and issue warnings for weather events, such as floods, droughts, and storms. The project includes a comprehensive support package that provides automated weather systems and technical equipment to enhance their capabilities. #SDG13 #SDG17 تعزيز الجاهزية لمواجهة تأثيرات تغير المناخ قدم برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي الدعم إلى المركز الوطني للأرصاد الجوية لتعزيز قدراته من خلال جولة دراسية استمرت لمدة 10 أيام لخمسة عشر موظفاً بالمركز في مملكة المغرب. وركز هذا التعاون فيما بين بلدان الجنوب، الذي يسره برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي في المديرية العامة للأرصاد الجوية في الدار البيضاء، على التقنيات المتقدمة للتنبؤ بالطقس، وإدارة البيانات المناخية، ونظم الإنذار الجوي والبحري. حيث يعد تحسين قدرات المركز الوطني للأرصاد الجوية مكونًا رئيسيًا لمشروع البرنامج الإنمائي بشأن تغير المناخ والذي يهدف إلى تعزيز استعداد ليبيا للتأثيرات المناخية بتمويل سخي من الإتحاد الأوروبي. كما تركز هذه المبادرة على تعزيز قدرة المركز الوطني للأرصاد على توقع وإصدار تحذيرات للظواهر الجوية، مثل الفيضانات والجفاف والعواصف. ويتضمن المشروع حزمة دعم شاملة توفر نظم طقس آلية ومعدات تقنية لتعزيز قدراتها. #الهدف13 #الهدف17

Addressing the Legal Framework for Missing Persons in Libya On Thursday, a roundtable meeting was held on the legal framework for missing persons, bringing together key stakeholders from the Presidential Council, the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, and other governmental entities. Representatives from families of missing persons and academics specialising in human rights and Sharia law also participated. The meeting presented and discussed the mapping of Libya's legal framework related to missing persons. The mapping highlights key findings, including an overview of the current legal framework and the institutional responsibilities concerning missing persons, privacy, access to information, and forensic analysis. It identifies the current gaps and areas to improve consistencies within the Libyan legal system and offers a set of concrete, practical recommendations to improve the legal framework governing missing persons in Libya. This initiative is part of the joint UNDP and UNSMIL Addressing Missing Persons project supported by The Netherlands. #SDG16 معالجة الإطار القانوني للمفقودين في ليبيا عقد يوم الخميس الماضي، اجتماع بشأن الإطار القانوني للأشخاص المفقودين، ضم أصحاب المصلحة الرئيسيين من المجلس الرئاسي و مجلس النواب والمجلس الأعلى للدولة وممثلي عدد من المؤسسات الحكومية الأخرى ذات العلاقة، كما شارك في هذا الإجتماع ممثلون عن أسر المفقودين وأكاديميين متخصصين في حقوق الإنسان والشريعة. وناقش الاجتماع المسح الذي أجري حول الإطار القانوني الليبي المتعلق بالمفقودين وسلط هذا المسح الضوء على النتائج الرئيسية، بما في ذلك نظرة عامة على الإطار القانوني الحالي والمسؤوليات المؤسسية المتعلقة بالأشخاص المفقودين، والخصوصية، والوصول إلى المعلومات، وما يتعلق بتحاليل الطب الشرعي، كما يحدد الثغرات والمجالات الحالية لتحسين الاتساق داخل النظام القانوني الليبي ويقدم مجموعة من التوصيات العملية الملموسة لتحسين الإطار القانوني الذي يحكم التعامل مع قضايا الأشخاص المفقودين في ليبيا. هذه المبادرة جزء من المشروع المشترك بين برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي وبعثة الأمم المتحدة للدعم في ليبيا لمعالجة قضايا المفقودين الذي تدعمه مملكة هولندا. #الهدف16

The High National Elections Commission has announced the start of voter registration in 62 municipalities in preparation for council elections. As of February 22, eligible Libyan voters can register via SMS or in person at one of the 141 voter registration acceptance committees in the relevant municipalities. Voter participation is essential for the success of the elections. UNDP encourages all eligible Libyans to register and advocate for inclusive community participation. #SDG16 أعلنت المفوضية الوطنية العليا للانتخابات بدء تسجيل الناخبين في 62 بلدية استعدادا لانتخابات المجالس البلدية. اعتبارًا من 22 فبراير، بإمكان الناخبين الليبيين المؤهلين، التسجيل عبر الرسائل القصيرة أو شخصيًا في إحدى لجان قبول تسجيل الناخبين البالغ عددها 141 في البلديات ذات العلاقة، إن مشاركة الناخبين أساسية وضرورية لنجاح الانتخابات. ويشجع برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي جميع الليبيين المؤهلين على التسجيل لضمان المشاركة المجتمعية الشاملة. #الهدف16
