  • CONVERSATION WITH MINISTER NRES AT 8th SELANGOR ASEAN BUSINESS CONFERENCE | 25 JULY 2024 At the 8th Selangor ASEAN Business Conference (SABC), YB Minister Nik Nazmi highlighted Malaysia's key initiatives to address climate change and promote sustainable development. The government has established the National Climate Change Action Council and the National Decarbonisation Committee to ensure a smooth transition to low-carbon development. These efforts aim to tackle urgent environmental challenges, such as plastic pollution, biodiversity loss, and extreme weather events. Malaysia is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, supported by the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). This roadmap aims to increase renewable energy's share in the power capacity from 25% to 70%. By integrating the NETR with other strategic plans, Malaysia is laying a solid foundation for a sustainable future, backed by actionable policies and comprehensive energy transition initiatives. Regional cooperation within ASEAN is crucial in combating climate change. The ASEAN Carbon Neutrality Strategy aligns with the Paris Agreement and aims to unlock significant economic opportunities while fostering green industries. Malaysia calls for consensus on key issues such as energy storage, carbon capture, and green financing to ensure cohesive and impactful actions across the region. YB Minister Nik Nazmi urged businesses and individuals to support Malaysia and ASEAN's sustainability goals by taking meaningful actions against greenwashing and contributing to genuine sustainability efforts. The government's commitment to climate change legislation and the National Adaptation Plan by 2025 demonstrates its dedication to both mitigation and adaptation strategies, aiming to create a resilient and thriving environment for future generations. #SABC #NRES #MalaysiaMADANI

  • Reforestation Malaysia approaches a watershed for wildlife and wilderness while human activity is undoing the creation of the remaining degraded and fragmented lands. So it will not maintain their biological diversity and evolutionary processes. Malaysia needs a bold plan to halt and reverse the destruction while healing the land means reconnecting the parts so vital flows can be renewed.
