Over the weekend, we had the pleasure of participating in a session with Mr Money TV for Stanzo x Atap.co's Designer Home Lifestyle Roadshow! Head of Scalable Malaysia's Emelia Tan had an onstage chat with Mr Money TV's Peter Yong about ways to save on home improvements. It was insightful and entertaining to hear Emelia and Peter share their personal experiences of home renovations and tips on how to get the best bang for your buck when renovating a home. Some key takeaways from their session are: 1. To enjoy the process of building a home, highlighting especially to couples purchasing and making their first home together that "when you build a home with your partner, your values come together". 2. Identify the BIG things in your home, i.e. your carpet, colours of the walls & floors, curtains, etc. Deciding on these items first can help you plan and visualise the look and feel for rest of your home and space. 3. Splurge on the items and spaces that are important to you. Quality must come first to ensure it sustains in the years to come. E.g., if you enjoy hosting and entertaining guests, allocate your budget to prioritise the design of your living and dining spaces. We had the privilege of visiting Else Retreats Kuala Lumpur, an independent boutique hotel in the corner of Jalan Tun H. S. Lee. It comes as no surprise that it was awarded Excellence in Conservation & Adaptive Reuse by The Edge Property Awards; with the building originally being the headquarters of Lee Rubber Company in the 1930s.
