Sabah State Level Oncology Nursing Training Just within 6 months (1st Half of 2024) together with Persatuan Pendidikan Jururawat Hospital Wanita dan Kanak-Kanak, Sabah Oncology Team and Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sabah, we celebrated a momentous milestone in our pursuit of advancing cancer care in Sabah towards equity of care regardless of geographical area. In March 2024, as part of the Train the Trainer (TTT) initiative, we nurtured 11 Nurse State Trainers. These trainers successfully disseminated their knowledge to approximately 50 nurses across Keningau, Tawau, Sandakan, Labuan, and Beaufort in May and June 2024. This effort aligns seamlessly with JKNS's Decentralisation plan, highlighting our shared commitment to bringing quality care closer to our patients. Under the exemplary leadership of JKNS, Datuk Kahar, Dr. Yazir, Dr. Jack, Matron Maini, Matron Anita, and Dr. Flora Chong, we've witnessed remarkable progress. The dedication and enthusiasm of our State Trainers and nurses have been palpable, evident in their swift actions and contributions following the workshop. They continue to engage in real-world learning through a Mentor-Mentee Program with telementoring sessions. Special thanks to Nurse Lecturer Pn. Azizan for her unwavering commitment in this project aiming for safe and reputable nursing services across Sabah with the team since 2021. Together with our esteemed partners, we are transforming our shared aspirations into reality, elevating cancer care across our district hospitals. Jane Tan, the Healthcare System Partner and MeiChoi Wan, The Patient Journey Partner have been living up to their role working in collaboration with Sabah’s stakeholders, closing gaps identified along Patient Journey and Healthcare System for better patient disease outcomes . #decentralisationhealthcare #PatientJourney #Healthcaresystem #Nurses #Upskilling #CareclosertoPatients

Roche GM Speaks on Partnerships for Funding at 1st National Cancer Conference Roche General Manager, Deepti Saraf was invited to be a speaker by the National Cancer Society Malaysia, at the 1st National Cancer Conference, themed “Bridging Gaps, Building Hope, Empowering Lives.” The 3-day event marked the first ever initiative in providing a platform for multi-stakeholders from the public, private and civil societies to come together to share, discuss and recognise initiatives that can strengthen and improve cancer care delivery to patients in Malaysia. Deepti’s panel session was part of the Treatment track focusing on “Partnerships for Cancer Funding Innovation”. Deepti shared about Roche’s co-funding and co-payment programmes that support patients for timely, equitable and sustainable access to the right treatment for best patient outcomes. Sharing on how she benefited from such programmes was advanced breast cancer survivor of 16 years, Chang Chu San. Despite being a government teacher, who has contributed to nation-building of future leader, she was not able to access the innovative treatment at a public hospital as it was not available. She sought treatment at a private hospital and was able to pay for it through a patient assistant programme. Dr. Flora Chong, Sabah State Head of Oncology Service shared that it is important that stakeholders must come together to align on goals to pool resources to strengthen the delivery of cancer care at public hospitals. Deepti also called on private and corporate organisations outside of healthcare to collaborate with Roche for such programmes. We would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to National Cancer Society of Malaysia for awarding Roche Malaysia with the “Affirmative Action for Cancer Sustainability Award 2024" and  "Supporting Capability Building of the Health Ecosystem" in recognition of Roche’s efforts in closing the care gap in the cancer care ecosystem. The awards were presented at the 1st National Cancer Conference 2024 held at Sunway University from June 21-23 with the theme “Bridging Gaps, Building Hope & Empowering Lives.” These awards recognize Roche’s significant contributions to cancer awareness, prevention, and community support in Malaysia, as well as efforts in upskilling healthcare stakeholders and upskilling patient groups’ knowledge on healthcare systems. Deepti Saraf, General Manager of Roche Malaysia, received the first award from Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, while Jane Tan and Buvanes Tharmalingam, Healthcare System Partners, accepted the second award on ‘Supporting the Capability Building of the Health Ecosystem’ from Dato’ Dr. Saunthari Somasundaram, President of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. NCSM cited Roche’s nationwide Breast Cancer Masterclass for Multi-Disciplinary Teams, the Nurse Basic Oncology Care Course, and a series of patient advocacy workshops as the criteria for presenting the "Supporting Capability Building of the Health Ecosystem'' award. Roche is pleased to share that these efforts have led to the credentialing of 45 nurses from five district hospitals in Sabah, training an additional 50 nurses this year, and empowering 20 patient group leaders to understand the healthcare system that led to the appointment of a patient representative in the Health Technology Assessment and Clinical Practise Guideline consultative council. Deepti emphasized that this recognition fuels Roche’s commitment to enhancing stakeholder capabilities and co-creating solutions to close the care gap. “We will continue partnering with stakeholders to understand their needs and implement policies for better patient outcomes,” she added. #RocheMalaysia #StrongerTogether #Empowerment #sustainablehealthcaresystem #NCCM2024 #NCSM

The Asia Pacific region faces an urgent challenge with its rapidly aging population and high prevalence of type 2 diabetes. This demographic shift presents a profound challenge for the region's healthcare systems. Vision loss not only affects individuals' quality of life but also has significant economic consequences, with $410.9 billion lost in global productivity in 2020. Given that 90% of vision impairment is treatable or preventable, prioritizing the Vision for Everyone by 2030 goals is crucial for the Asia Pacific. Millions still lack access to necessary eye care, and health systems must adapt to meet the needs of an aging population. One of the five priorities to deliver Vision for Everyone by 2030 is addressing the workforce gap by training the next generation of eye-care specialists. Programme like the first Malaysia's Women in Ophthalmology Forum, created by Roche Malaysia, serve as a model for fostering a stronger, more gender-inclusive workforce.
