This two-day hybrid event, hosted by SADC Parliamentary Forum and supported by Sida, will focus on advancing legislative solutions to SRHR and HIV/AIDS governance across the SADC region. The SADC Parliamentary Forum has convened a budget analysis retreat for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) researchers and staff of national parliaments to strengthen budgetary practices for SRHR advocacy. The retreat began in Johannesburg on 28 September 2024 with the Secretary General of the SADC Parliamentary Forum HE. Boemo Sekgoma, underscoring the need for rigorous budget planning in the realm of SRHR. “Without a budget, nothing can be achieved,” the SG said when she officially opened the retreat, highlighting the role financial resources play in implementing essential health initiatives. The SADC PF Secretary General H.E Boemo Sekgoma yesterday received the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC) Pre-Election Mission to Namibia, led by Justice Priscila Makanyara Chigumba, Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. They exchanged views on the upcoming elections and reiterated the importance of collaboration between SADC Parliamentary Forum and Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC) in promoting democratic elections. As a key stakeholder in the electoral process in the region, SADC PF reiterated the important role of the Electoral Commission of Namibia as the election management body in ensuring that electoral processes are accessible to citizens and meet democratic standards. The discussions also highlighted the importance of inclusive, credible elections and maintaining a peaceful electoral environment. Both SADC Parliamentary Forum and Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC) stressed the need for continued collaboration to safeguard electoral integrity and support democratic governance in the region. #DemocracyInAction
