Ruth: The Story of a True Survivor Imagine escaping from an abusive situation, only to end up in an even worse situation. Ruth's journey began in 2017 when she tried to leave domestic violence behind. Hoping for a better life, she fell into a trap and endured six years of fear, torture, and unimaginable pain, leaving her broken and isolated. Without any support from family or friends, she ended up in Libya after being falsely promised a better life and then returned to Nigeria in a broken and depressed state. For years, Ruth struggled with sleep and felt trapped in misery, desperately seeking a way out. Then, Ruth found help through the RESTIPP (Reintegration, Empowerment, and Sensitization of Trafficking in Persons Program) project. "When I was told about the project offering psychological help and vocational skills training, my heart leapt for joy. I quickly signed up for the program," Ruth recalled. Through the RESTIPP project, Ruth has been receiving counselling and vocational training. In just one week of vocational training, Ruth has already started acquiring valuable skills and looks forward to a brighter future. Ruth's story shows the strength of the human spirit. With support, hope, and the right opportunities, survival can become a transformation. As RESTIPP continues to change lives, Ruth's journey shows that no matter how difficult the path may seem, there is always hope ahead. AYGF was thrilled to be in attendance at the WFP Dinner, graciously hosted by Cindy McCain, the esteemed Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP). As part of our ongoing partnership with WFP, AYGF has been actively involved in the Ukrainian Wheat Distribution Project in Katsina, providing wheat to over 68,000 households. This project goes beyond mere food distribution – it's about delivering hope and relief to communities in dire need. This week, the Ukrainian Wheat Distribution team was in Safana LGA, where they delivered crucial grains to households affected by the current food crisis in Katsina state. Before the distribution, our team meticulously verified household members to ensure that the wheat was allocated to the rightful recipients.  With our dedicated field officers overseeing the process, we ensured that every step was executed seamlessly, equitably, and with utmost transparency, giving special consideration to the elderly, women, and individuals living with disabilities. Every household received its designated portion, reinforcing our unwavering dedication to bolstering local communities and enhancing food security. The 3-month vocational skills training under the RESTIPP project officially began last week with an orientation for its beneficiaries. During the orientation, participants were introduced to the core objectives of AYGF and the RESTIPP project in Edo State, as well as the benefits available to the beneficiaries. Expectations for the training were outlined, emphasizing the importance of 100% attendance, participation in counselling sessions and group meetings, and maintaining respectful conduct throughout the training. The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) also provided information to participants about the specific training procedures within the organization and grouped them according to their respective skill sets. The participants will receive training in leather works, catering services, and hairdressing. AYGF is committed to ensuring that all participants receive training on essential life skills, including self-esteem, self-worth, and goal setting, to make the reintegration process easier for the Participants.

As we work towards alleviating the food crisis in Katsina state, our initiative focuses on women, children, the elderly and persons with disabilities. Our ongoing project covers 5 Local Government Areas in Katsina state (Kurfi, Dutsinma, Safana, Batsari, and Danmusa) with the aim of reaching over 68,000 households as part of AYGF's humanitarian efforts.
