We all prefer our comfort zone, but today, we were audacious, stepping out in style on a coverage evaluation survey to one of the IDP camps in Gawa, Maiduguri. Although there are a lot of concerns about the security and safety of field health workers in this region, enough to scare anyone, however we were compelled by the need to understand how things are done by the state and its supporting partner (HKI) in reaching the end mile with NTD interventions within the context of a dynamic displaced population, in addition to validating the reported treatment coverage for the 2023 MDA for Trachoma and Schistosomiasis. We were curious to know how effective the strategies deployed by the state and it supporting partner (HKI) are towards effective MDA, to celebrate their ingenuity, and document fact that could support MDA protocol in a similar context.
