At the #DSNAIBootcamp2024, the poster "AI Plays Ayo: Reinforcement Learning in a Traditional Nigerian Mancala Game" by Kayode Makinde and Abayomi-Alli Adebayo stood out by showcasing AI’s potential in cultural gaming. Using reinforcement learning (RL) to tackle the Yoruba game "Ayo", the research featured advanced agents, including a Pruned Minimax agent that excelled by balancing strategic depth with speed via alpha-beta pruning. This agent’s efficient decision-making makes it ideal for real-time play and highlights how AI can master complex, traditional games. A user-friendly interface lets human players interact with these AI agents, simulating authentic gameplay and bridging culture with technology. This research is a significant leap for AI and game development, showing how RL can enhance heritage preservation, real-time gaming, and AI education across cultures.

Imagine a system that can predict and understand human behavior like a person. That’s Centaur, an advanced AI model built on Llama 3.1. Centaur was trained with data from over 60,000 participants and 160 psychology experiments, giving it insight into decision-making, memory, and learning. It uses a technique called QLoRA to specialize without changing its core design. In tests, Centaur outperformed other AI and psychology models, accurately predicting behavior in new situations. Its internal processes also align with human brain activity, making it a groundbreaking tool for understanding how we think. Read more here>https://lnkd.in/dEF3J7G5
