NAMP CLINICAL TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION BOARD (NCCB) In June 2024, the NCCB announced the commencement of the first phase of the National Board Certification for Clinical Medical Physicists in the country. After 2 years of planning, months and days of meetings, we are happy to be here. This is a major milestone for Medical Physics in Nigeria. The association in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria had in the past coordinated a Medical Physics residency program for medical physicists which later became defunct. Since then efforts have been made and is still being made to resuscitate the residency program albeit the challenges facing the profession in Nigeria. This National Certification is a significant achievement geared towards ensuring that Radiation Medicine in Nigeria is practised safely and efficiently. Qualified Medical Physicists are a critical and essential part of the multidisciplinary team whose roles and responsibilities spread through the entire clinical work flow including training of Radiation professionals. The national certification is in collaboration with the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM), American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), The Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL PHYSICS CERTIFICATION BOARD (IMPCB).
