As part of our commitment to fostering environmental consciousness and youth-led climate action, Teens Connect Africa (TCA) proudly hosted the third edition of Project Keep Zuba Clean—a community service initiative aimed at promoting environmental responsibility. This edition was uniquely championed by our Climate Ambassadors, who were appointed during the Save the Children International Nigeria’s "Generation Hope" campaign and equipped with skills through their impactful climate action training. On this 14th of December, 25 participants (4 volunteers and 21 teenagers) came together to demonstrate the power of collective action in addressing environmental challenges. Action Undertaken; 🌎Clearing of gutters and sidewalks to improve sanitation and prevent waterborne diseases. 🌎Proper packaging and disposal of waste to promote a cleaner environment. 🌎Distribution of educational flyers to passersby, raising awareness about TCA's mission and the importance of community-driven climate action. _________ _________ This edition of the project follows another impactful initiative earlier this year, where our Climate Ambassadors planted trees in Zuba community in September as part of efforts to combat deforestation and promote sustainable living. The dedication and teamwork of our Climate Ambassadors shone through, showcasing resilience and a deep commitment to creating a sustainable future. Project Keep Zuba Clean is a practical demonstration of the training received during the Generation Hope campaign, showcasing the leadership of our Climate Ambassadors in addressing environmental issues. These young leaders continue to inspire change by educating communities and taking decisive action toward creating a sustainable future. As we wrap up the year, we celebrate this milestone and look forward to even more impactful projects. 2024: A Year of Impact and Transformation in Zuba! This year has been nothing short of amazing for the teenagers in the Zuba community! Together, we held 11 impactful mentorship sessions featuring 13 inspiring mentors and over 8 dedicated volunteers who showed up consistently to empower these young minds. From discovering purpose to goal setting, self-esteem (gender-focused sessions), overcoming limitations, becoming changemakers, financial intelligence, climate change, communication skills, and much more, we’ve touched on critical areas that equip these teens for life. As we wrap up the year, here’s a glimpse of the feedback from our November mentorship meeting—our final session for 2024. Their words are a testament to the transformation happening here. Looking ahead, December will see these exceptional teenagers give back to their community by implementing a community service project. It’s their way of demonstrating social responsibility and applying the lessons they’ve learned.
