Is Human Milk Truly Iron-Deficient? For years, many have believed that breast milk is iron-deficient and that iron supplements are necessary for exclusively breastfed baby's development. Let’s set some things straight 1. The amount of Iron present in Human milk is way less than that in Cow milk. 2. But the iron that is available in Human milk is wayyyy more bio-available to your babies, this means that it's so much more easily absorbed! While the Iron in Cow milk doesn't absorb easily so most of it, "goes to waste". 3. Iron supplements are unnecessary (generally). They interfere with iron absorption in your baby's body and can lead to gastrointestinal issues amongst others.

It’s #pcosawareness month and one of the under-diagnosed symptoms/complications is hypo-lactation in nursing mums. Remember that an absence of diagnosis is not an absence of illness. In our practice, we have consulted with women who had PCOS but were unaware and the only symptom that stood out for them, was a very low breast milk supply. And this is not an issue that is fixed with increased breastfeeding/pumping. Hypo-lactation in #PCOS is thought to be due to insulin resistance that can sometimes occur, and also a decrease in breast tissue with milk glands.

It’s #PCOSAWARENESS month. And one of the under-diagnosed implications of PCOS is hypolactation in nursing mums. The BestFeeding Club will be shedding more light on that.
PCOS and Breastfeeding Sometimes, struggling with breast milk supply points to a deeper issue that isn’t easily fixed with “more demand= more supply”. And we know this can take a toll on mum’s mental health, especially when she’s not aware she has PCOS or she’s not aware that it can impact her breastfeeding journey Diet & exercise modifications along with medication (as prescribed by our in-house Medical Doctor & Lactation Specialist) have helped increase the breast milk supply of many nursing mothers with PCOS. #pcosawareness #pcosawarenessmonth #breastfeedingpcos #breastmilksupply #blackmaternalhealthweek #blackmaternalhealth
