A pivotal moment for global action on water 🌍💦 Yesterday, ministers from seven countries and representatives from the United Nations and The World Bank came together to tackle the global water crisis at a roundtable hosted by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, supported by WaterAid. Ministers from Bangladesh, Malawi, Morocco, Nepal, Senegal, the UAE and the UK agreed to integrate water security, sanitation and hygiene into their climate, nature and development policies. Marking a crucial moment of global climate solidarity ahead of COP30 in Brazil, the agreement ensures that the most vulnerable communities are prioritised and recognises water security as "a critical resource that underpins and catalyses key sectors of the economy". About us
WaterAid is an international charity with one goal: to change the world through water. Along with decent toilets and good hygiene, a reliable supply of clean water is essential for health, dignity and a life full of opportunity. Today we work alongside communities worldwide setting up entire systems that deliver clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene for millions. And we get the people, policies and money in place to keep these systems working – and the water flowing for good. So that people have safe, reliable services that last. Together with our partners and supporters, we are working with determination towards the day when we are no longer needed.

We are deeply honoured that our Patron, His Majesty The King, hosted a Reception at Buckingham Palace last night, bringing together changemakers, young leaders and decision-makers to drive action on water and climate change. Together, we can support communities to withstand extreme weather, keep clean water flowing, and create a brighter, more resilient future for all. Change starts with water.

This morning we brought water to the London Stock Exchange! Because stronger economies start with clean water. But when almost one in ten still don’t have clean water close to home, none of us can move forward. That's why we must act together now. Thank you to the LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group) for helping us to make the power of water impossible to ignore. During his time as our Patron, The King has been instrumental in bringing us closer to a world where everyone, everywhere, has clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene. His Majesty has supported us in many ways since 1991 – from visiting countries including Ghana, Tanzania and Uganda to see how clean water transforms lives, to attending Glastonbury Festival, and stopping by our award-winning garden at the Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show. His Majesty also, as Prince of Wales, spearheaded the Sustainable Markets Initiative and, in 2021, launched the Resilient Water Accelerator which is already working to boost water security for millions of people. We are deeply honoured that His Majesty will host the Water and Climate Reception at Buckingham Palace tonight, bringing together young leaders and decision-makers to drive attention and action on climate change and water.

This International Women’s Day, and every day, we’re fighting for gender equality - because water is a gender issue Right now, millions of women and girls spend hours each day walking for water. Time that should be theirs to learn, work, and be with family. The good news is, you can help. Walk in solidarity. Take on the Walk for Water challenge by walking 155km in March or 5km a day, and raise money to help make clean water a reality for everyone, everywhere. No woman should have to risk her life when giving birth. Yet, every two seconds, a woman gives birth in a healthcare facility without clean water, sanitation and hygiene. This means that women can’t wash themselves or their newborns after birth, midwives can’t wash their hands or sterilise equipment – putting them all at serious risk of harm from preventable infections and sepsis. Every woman, everywhere has the right to a clean, safe birth. It is essential to achieving gender equality in healthcare. Read more in print in today's The Guardian. Gender equality starts with clean water. We know that clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene are life-changing for women and girls around the world. Because when they have access to these essentials, they can go to school, do paid work, manage their periods safely and be protected from infections during childbirth. #IWD2025 #GenderEquality #CleanWater
