𝗖𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗥 𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗘 || 𝗣𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗜𝗣𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗜𝗡 𝗦𝗧. 𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗕𝗨𝗥𝗚, 𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔, 𝗨𝗦𝗔 St. Petersburg, Florida, a city with rich history and rapid growth, faces mounting challenges managing its aging buried pipeline infrastructure. The city’s water and sewer systems are critical to its residents, businesses, and thriving tourism industry. However, these systems, some of which were installed decades ago, are increasingly vulnerable to corrosion, leaks, and failures due to environmental conditions and the demands of a growing population. Recognizing the importance of proactive asset management, the City of St. Petersburg launched an initiative to inspect, assess, and address its buried pipeline assets. The goal: to prioritize rehabilitation and extend the lifespan of critical infrastructure while avoiding unnecessary replacement costs. The city completed a preliminary desktop assessment of twenty-six force mains, categorized as very high, high, and medium risk. V&A was contracted by the city to assess the condition of all 26 force mains and develop a screening assessment ranking. Through its partnership with V&A Consulting Engineers, the city selected CPM Pipelines to deploy the Acquarius in-line inspection technology for the inspection of a 4-mile, 24-inch ductile iron (DI) force main. Based on the screening, the lift station force main was ranked as ''Very High Risk," with recommendations for further investigation. 𝗥𝗶𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗿𝘂𝗸: 𝗵𝗼𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗽? Nederland heeft een gigantisch netwerk van rioleringen, maar een groot deel is verouderd en dringend toe aan vervanging. Tegelijkertijd kampen gemeenten met een tekort aan specialisten. Het gevolg? Versleten leidingen, meer lekkages en een verhoogd risico op wateroverlast en vervuiling. Dit probleem komt niet alleen door de ouderdom van het systeem, maar ook door klimaatverandering: extreme regenbuien en droogte vragen om een flexibeler en robuuster waterbeheer. Maar de oplossing is dichterbij dan we denken. Dankzij moderne inspectietechnieken kunnen we veel gerichter onderhoud plegen. In plaats van te wachten op storingen of blindelings complete netwerken te vervangen, maken slimme inspecties het mogelijk om exact te zien waar de grootste risico’s liggen. Middels geavanceerde ultrasoon sensoren kunnen we leidingen in kaart brengen, slijtage voorspellen en ingrijpen voordat er grote problemen ontstaan. In totaal werken hebben we in Nederland al zo’n 500 km aan leiding geïnspecteerd en werken we met 19 Waterschappen (van de 21), 6 Drinkwaterbedrijven (van de 10) en 13 Gemeenten. Door deze technologie slim in te zetten, besparen we niet alleen kosten en tijd, maar maken we onze infrastructuur ook toekomstbestendig. 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝘀𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘀-𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 Acquaint's smart inline inspection tools are equipped with ultrasonic sensors. These sensors can measure as many as 10 different failure mechanisms, including leaching in asbestos-cement pipelines. Leaching in asbestos-cement pipes occurs because calcium, found in the material, slowly dissolves in water. This causes the strength of the pipe to deteriorate, with all the necessary risks.
