Post-operative fluid collections (POFC) are common in both primary and revision total joint arthroplasty (TJA), posing a risk for periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) which has significant patient and healthcare impacts. Hematomas, seromas, and lymphoceles are typical POFCs, potentially prolonging recovery and increasing infection risk. High-risk factors for POFC include multiple fascial planes, revision surgery, and inadequate hemostasis. Revision THA has higher morbidity and mortality than revision TKA. Management of POFC includes prompt identification, prevention through meticulous surgical technique, and treatment often beginning with aspiration. Further research is needed on inflammatory mediators and the role of lymphatics. ❤️ https://lnkd.in/eyJchn-P . . . . #sonoholic #ultrasound #sonography #MSKultrasound #MSKUS #POCUS #radiology #radiologytech #orthopedics #orthopaedics #sportsmedicine #painmedicine #familymedicine #neurology #physiotherapy #physicaltherapy #physiatry
