During the Meet Up, we’ll explore both the geopolitical and environmental challenges surrounding rare metals, along with companies representing their innovative solutions such as recycling, efficient extraction, and alternative materials for high-demand batteries. Hier kregen zij de unieke kans om samen met VolkerWessels-collega én motorsportcoureur Max van Splunteren te racen over het circuit in een elektrische Porsche! 🏁   Wat een ervaring, als je het aan de prijswinnaars Tree Composites, Syntho, Twin AI en Back to Battery vraagt. "Het is eng, maar net als bij werken in een start-up voel je de adrenaline. Geweldig!"   De NL Startup Competition is een initatief van Erasmus Enterprise opgezet om startups te ondersteunen. Deze startups houden zich bezig met belangrijke uitdagingen op het gebied van sociale impact, energietransitie, digitale vooruitgang en circulaire economie. Wij als VolkerWessels zetten ons dagelijks in voor deze onderwerpen en zijn daarom trotse partner van dit mooie initiatief! Kleine, afgedankte lithium-ion-batterijen uit smartphones recyclen om er weer nieuwe batterijen van te kunnen maken. Het is een van de meest complexe vormen van recycling, maar de Nederlandse start-up Back to Battery heeft er een efficiënte en veilige technologie voor ontwikkeld. Het makkelijkst is om alle waardevolle materialen uit de grote batterijen van elektrische auto’s te halen. “Dat noemen wij het laaghangend fruit”, zegt CEO en oprichter Steven Lans. Zijn start-up laat dat voorlopig hangen en focust vooral op kleine batterijen. Die zijn veel gevarieerder en moeilijker te recyclen. “We recyclen de batterijen die andere bedrijven niet recyclen. We doen het ook anders dan andere bedrijven, want we recyclen met een gesloten kringloop.” De start-up heeft zijn technologie bewezen in het laboratorium. Het patent is aangevraagd en er staat een heel team klaar om verder op te schalen. Daarvoor is een miljoen euro nodig en daarom is het bedrijf bezig investeerders te zoeken. De pilotfabriek van Back-to-Battery bij de Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Limburg produceert nu zo’n 500 kilo materiaal per week. Meer in het artikel hieronder:
