"Among the more than 15,000 startups registered for #ewc2024, Kumasi has made it into our top 250 of the Global Finals" Dat was een mooi berichtje deze week in onze inbox!

Don't Waste It, Just Drink It! We pour cocoa wastage in a bottle. And strangely enough, that's delicious.
Over ons
With Kumasi we would like to introduce you to cocoa juice, a brand new product that will not only amaze your taste buds but will fight food waste and poverty in the cocoa sector as well. The first time you taste Kumasi you may think "Hmm, strangely fruity!'' Naturally, we associate cocoa with a fine, chocolaty taste, but there is way more to cocoa than just that. That's why we were surprised that this delicious juice normally goes to waste. During the harvest of the cocoa beans this delicious juice flows into the earth, just like that. And that's a waste. Both for the farmers as for us, cocoa lovers. 100% Natural, 0% Waste If you want to make chocolate, it's just the beans that you're after. But for Kumasi, we are mainly interested in a residual product, the fruit pulp. In our cocoa juice we found a 100% natural solution, made from the fruit surrounding the cocoa beans. In this way, we prevent the waste of an exclusive and delicious product, and are able to offer farmers in Ghana an extra source of income (up to 30% increase). Next to that, our product will be 100% Ghanaian, as we are producing our cocoa juice from bean to bottle in the Kumasi region (Ghana). Strangely Fruity Extracting juice from the pulp of the cocoa fruit sounds like a cool idea, but is it also tasty? For a documentary for Nestlé, Lars Gierveld traveled to Ghana to learn more about the cocoa supply chain, and during this quest he was offered some juice for the first time. He was overwhelmed by the fruity taste of the juice: "The taste is something that you have never experienced before! Because our association with cacao is so strongly linked to chocolate, our brain expects a chocolate taste". But that's not what it tastes like at all! Cocoa is a fruit, and therefore the pulp has a fruity, sweet and invigorating flavor (think apple-lychee!).

Fijne organisatie. Mooi publiek. Toffe discussies.

Walking through the supermarket, we came across Kumasi Drinks, a drink made from cacao fruit. We knew cacao was harvested for chocolate production but didn’t think the fruit would actually make such a nice drink. Kumasi is a brand that fights food waste, is socially responsible, and is mindful of its production and the farmers, all while creating an innovative product from a residual resource. 🌍❤️ How cool is that? (𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘢 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘢𝘥, 𝘸𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵😎) Let us know about other cool, sustainable innovations we should look into! #SustainableLiving #Innovation #ProductReview #MarketResearch #Amsterdam #ConversationStudio #nomorecrappyproducts

Last week we competed in finals of the NL Startup Competition in Annabel Rotterdam. And We're thrilled to share that we won 1st prize in the Circulair/Sustainable category. We have talked about how we amplify our story of cacao fruit by widen our product range this year. We introduced cacao fruit on the market with our soft drinks, but this year exciting new product (collaborations) are coming up. Cacao fruit has so many possibilities. It is becoming increasingly accepted that cacao is a fruit and it is therefore literally a waste to only use the seeds. We like to think outside the bean ánd the box. Don't hesitate to contact us if your organization would like to explore the possibilities with this delicious fruit with a good story. Open for more collabs! Thanks for the great event Erasmus Enterprise and MT/Sprout

Boeren krijgen zo hun eigen handel in cacao fruit juice.
