With Sally Binding transitioning to the EAZA Academy Manager role, the EAZA Executive Office is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled colleague to replace her as our EAZA Animal Welfare Coordinator. The successful candidate will be part of the Field Conservation and Science team in the Amsterdam office. 🔬 💪 They will help advance evidence-based animal welfare policy, standards and practice for zoos and aquariums by i) organising appropriate training, networking-events and capacity building activities, ii) participating to the ongoing development of EAZA’s governing documents, and iii) representing EAZA with internal and external stakeholders. 🎤 Meet our #ProudZooPerson of the day: Lisa Sernow, Curator at Zoo Salzburg Gemeinnützige GmbH in Austria! 🇦🇹 “I have been visiting Salzburg Zoo since I was a child. I am still delighted to now own my personal set of the zoo’s keys🔑. I have occupied multiple positions at the zoo since 2016 and since May 2021, I am the main curator. Every day at the zoo is a new challenge, but in a positive way! There is always something unexpected waiting around the corner when you work with animals. I never had a day I got bored.🌀 💪 It takes a lot of thinking, efforts, and endurance to plan new enrichments, implement new tools or design an enclosure from the scratch. I love to share success with our zookeeper team when the projects turn out to work well. I am for example really proud that we were able to release into the wild offspring from our 🐐 Alpine ibex group. It is such a special moment to witness them leaving the crate after the transport and conquer their natural habitat back. 🧠 One of my favorite things about the zoo community is the enormous knowledge that comes with it! Whenever I travel, I try to visit other institutions and learn from them. It is great that it is filled with dedicated people working for the same goals and sharing their experiences. Yesterday, we had the honour to welcome Joel, renowned photographer for National Geographic magazine and talented story teller, at the EAZA Annual Conference conservation plenary. He explained the journey that led him to start The Photo Ark and how passionate he became about animal conservation. 💚 His gorgeous pictures and videos aim to (re)connect humans with nature.
