New research confirms: Battery-electric flight is the most effective solution for air travel up to 1,000 km, offering the lowest climate impact and the highest energy efficiency. A new study from CE Delft, commissioned by Elysian Aircraft, finds that by 2035, battery-electric flight will have the lowest climate impact, reducing lifecycle emissions by 70% compared to kerosene and operating 3-4x more efficiently than aircraft powered by hydrogen or synthetic fuels (eSAF). With flights under 1,000 km accounting for 50% of passenger trips and 20% of aviation-related CO₂ emissions, electric aviation offers a significant opportunity to reduce emissions. Elysian Aircraft is leading this transition with the E9X, demonstrating that large-scale battery-electric flight is within reach. Comment below to get the link to the full report👇🏻.

We are excited to announce that Diederik Samsom has joined the Elysian Aircraft Advisory Board. With a distinguished career in sustainability, energy policy, and environmental leadership, Diederik brings invaluable expertise to support our vision for the future of emission-free aviation. His background includes leadership roles at Greenpeace Netherlands, serving as leader of the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA), and playing a pivotal role in shaping the European Green Deal as Head of Cabinet for Frans Timmermans at the European Commission. Most recently, he was appointed Chair of Gasunie's Supervisory Board, further reinforcing his expertise in energy transition and infrastructure. As we pursue our mission to redefine the future of air travel by developing the world's first large-scale battery-electric aircraft, Diederik’s insights will be instrumental in navigating the intersection of policy, technology, and environmental responsibility. Welcome, Diederik! 🤝

🔋 On Battery Day, we honor Alessandro Volta, whose breakthrough in energy storage laid the foundation for everything from EVs to renewables—and now, battery-electric flight, the most energy-efficient path to emission-free air travel. Aviation emits 1 gigaton of CO₂ annually, and without urgent action, this could double by 2042. Batteries offer a real solution. ⚡ At Elysian Aircraft, we are developing the E9X, the world’s first large-scale battery-electric aircraft. Designed to carry 90 passengers on routes up to 800 km—and up to 1,000 km as battery technology advances—the E9X could replace 50% of scheduled flights and reduce global aviation emissions by 20%. Batteries transformed energy storage. Now, they’re transforming flight. 🛫

📰 Elysian Aircraft Co-Founder & Co-CEO Daniel Rosen Jacobson enjoyed speaking with Yteke de Jong at De Telegraaf about the newly published CE Delft study on the climate impact of battery-electric, hydrogen, and SAF propulsion technologies. The research confirms that battery-electric flight is the most sustainable option for routes up to 1,000 km, cutting emissions by 70% and operating three times more efficiently than hydrogen or SAF. Even when accounting for life cycle emissions—such as battery production and infrastructure—battery-electric aircraft remain the best environmental choice. With a fully green electricity grid, they could even outperform trains in emissions per passenger. Sustainability is just one part of the equation. Battery-electric aircraft also present a compelling economic case for airlines. Elysian’s E9X isn’t just the best choice for decarbonizing short-haul flights—it has the potential to compete with larger aircraft on a per-passenger, per-kilometer basis. Aerospace needs bold innovation, and we’re excited to see De Telegraaf covering this important conversation on the future of aviation. 🛫 🗞️ Read the full article here as a subscriber or see pages 16-17 in today’s edition: https://lnkd.in/dA58hrR5

The future of net-zero aviation isn’t waiting. With Airbus pushing its hydrogen plans beyond 2035, as reported by the FT, fresh doubts are emerging about its feasibility. Meanwhile, battery-electric technology continues to advance—offering the most scalable, energy-efficient, and truly emission-free solution for flights up to 1,000 km. At Elysian Aircraft, we are developing the E9X, the world’s first large-scale battery-electric aircraft. Designed to carry 90 passengers on routes up to 800 km—extending to 1,000 km with battery advancements—it could replace 50% of all flights and cut global aviation emissions by 20%. - More Efficient – Battery-electric propulsion maximizes renewable energy use, avoiding the inefficiencies of hydrogen’s complex value chain. It also eliminates emissions entirely, unlike hydrogen, which still produces NOx and water vapor. - Easier to Deploy – Battery-electric aircraft can charge anywhere with grid access, enabling faster and more cost-effective adoption. Hydrogen, however, requires expensive infrastructure for production, liquefaction, and distribution—slowing its rollout. The future of emission-free aviation is taking off—join us.
