Last week, we embarked on a slow, artful Rail Adventure, discovering Europe through positive community impact and cultural immersion. Travelling from Venice to Ljubljana, Graz, Vienna, and Prague, we connected with local communities and businesses and gathered inspiring stories along the way. We were joined by an incredible group of like-minded individuals—Aditi Mayer, Jazmine Rogers, Linh Truong, Miranda Sanchez, Mohuya Khan, and Sunny Kabocha—whose creativity and passion made this journey unforgettable. In Venice, we had the privilege of meeting Claudio Beorchia, artist in residence at We are here Venice , who introduced us to the Waterlands project, blending art and environmental activism to preserve the iconic lagoons. In Ljubljana, we were transported in time at Marija Lah’s workshop, the city’s last umbrella repairer, continuing her family’s 60-year tradition of upcycling and repairing umbrellas. We stayed at Hotel Čad, run by the 4th generation Čad family. And enjoyed traditional Slovenian dishes at Druga Violina, a restaurant supporting people with special needs. In Graz, we celebrated tag.werk's 25th anniversary and, through hands-on workshops, witnessed their empowering work with disadvantaged youth, creating meaningful products from upcycled materials. In Vienna we immersed ourselves in arts, culture and history while resting at magdas HOTEL (magdas Social Business), Austria's first social business hotel, which empowers and educates refugees and migrants in hospitality and tourism industry. The culmination of this incredible Eurail trip was in Prague where we arrived just in time for this year's Signal Festival. This festival celebrates creative and digital art by combining contemporary visual art, urban spaces, and cutting-edge technology. Signal is committed to a future where art and sustainability thrive together. Emma Malinova Protiva Iqbal Claudia Trotter Another Way - Prize Management

Last week, Thijn van Eldijk, our Institutional Initiatives Specialist had the honour of speaking at the event ‘Explore Europe with Erasmus+: Discover, Learn, Unite!’ held at the Thott Palace, home of the French Embassy in Copenhagen. It was a fantastic early celebration of #ErasmusDays, a week dedicated to recognizing the achievements of the Erasmus+ Programme and its role in fostering connections across Europe. Together with the French Ambassador, Christophe Parisot, Thijn introduced the #MyGreenErasmusinFrance initiative, a joint effort with the French Institute in the Nordic countries. The initiative encourages Erasmus+ students to think how they travel to France sustainably, and to share their green travel stories with their peers. Train travel offers more than a low carbon footprint—it fosters informal learning and brings us closer to a more united and sustainable Europe. Institut français Danmark

Train adventure instead of flying: I was very pleased to guide a group of young travel writers going on a travel journalism workshop with Intrepid Travel from London to Porto, and show the perks and fun of traveling with an #Interrailpass. 4 days, 2200 km, 7 trains, and 1 metro ride. Stop-overs in San Sebastian, León and Vigo, beautiful views on the Basque and Cantabrian mountains, as well as conversations and drinks in the #Renfe train bar, made it a worthwhile, exciting and unforgettable experience. It’s the journey that matters! Thanks to Rachel Schnalzer, Toyo Odetunde, Liseli Thomas, Jessica Heather and Pia-Maria Issa & Protiva Iqbal at Eurail. #traintravel #interrail #onestopfurther
