It’s an honor to share the stage with The Economist Senior Editor Dominic Ziegler and be one of the voices of conservation of the high seas and science diplomacy on ocean governance issues in Asia at the 12th annual #WorldOceanSummit last week in Tokyo. So ecstatic and inspiring also to meet fellow ocean advocates and international experts from civil society, intergovernmental orgs, regional programmes, and academia! It's impressive to hear many speakers across sessions, highlighting the importance of the swift ratification and early entry into force of the #BBNJ Treaty. Let's continue to create space for more high seas #BBNJ conversations! 🌊 High Seas Alliance Rebecca Hubbard Urvashi Sudhindra Economist Impact

The #BBNJ Treaty underscores the participation of landlocked countries in the conservation and sustainable use of areas beyond national jurisdiction. Bhutan, one of the landlocked developing countries in Asia, has recently organised a national consultation workshop with support from the High Seas Alliance. As the world’s first carbon-negative country, Bhutan’s ethos is centered on environmental protection and is very much aligned with BBNJ’s conservation objectives. Our team also had a courtesy meeting with Foreign Minister Lyonpo D.N. Dhungyel to discuss the importance of the participation of landlocked countries like Bhutan in the BBNJ ratification process. #RaceForRatification
