It’s been a rough week out there in the real world. As more and more companies jump on the #ai bandwagon, the average consumer is catching up with the ham-handed and shameless data scraping by entities desperate to stay relevant. This weeks “worst company online” was without a doubt Adobe. They locked their products and forced users to sign away all privacy and use of adobe’s product suite. Without explaining why, what they were doing, or how the data would be used. (Ps adobe is using the data for an LLM, shocker). People are noticing WhatsApp has changed their terms and conditions as well. Encrypted end to end is no more. You are now being scraped as of page 2 of the new TOC. Posts like this proliferated X and TikTok: Man, this is bad. This one message has 18,000,000 views. That is one expensive and terrifying error in judgement. Will Cathcart and Loni Stark - how can this have gone worse for you? I’m shocked at how little communication was given, and how stupid you think your consumers are. They’re not. Tech is going to have to come clean to the public about what you are doing. Or die one 18,000,000 impression tweet at a time. Sigh. #datascience #ai #scraping #privacy #fail

Have you ever wanted a creepy robotic skeleton crow that you can talk to? No? Yeah...that makes sense. Meet Poe. He's a virtual assistant with a deeply unoriginal name and an anxious and bleak disposition. He is filled with existential dread and only sometimes answers my questions, other times he spirals into nihilistic tangents and sometimes he just refuses to answer. I am building Poe in my (little) free time, because one day I decided I needed a much less efficient way to track my working time for clients and I wanted to play around with app registration in Azure for my work with IMBII Solutions. Also, I was recently inspired by some extremely creative people at Acid Solder Club in Utrecht (Veerle Pennock) who are making tech physical again. Poe is built using a Raspberry Pi, Azure speech-to-text services, an open AI fine tuned chatGPT model I based off of Marvin the Paranoid Android and lots of python. In order to force myself to actually finish this project, and because I need to increase my LinkedIn presence now that I have a business 🤢, I'll upload some Poe content every week. If you wanna see Poe do something specific let me know. Otherwise, what have been your cool creative projects? How much time should you spend training your users on a new app? At IMBII we try to aim for 0% We believe that in most cases, if your app is well designed it should require almost no training at all. In fact, we've successfully built and implemented dozens of apps without any end-user training. How do we do it? 1. In-app instructions and clear text-based buttons (relying exclusively on icons is pretty, but can be vague and ambiguous) 2. Built-in tutorials This is the most time-consuming part of the build, but absolutely game changing, especially for companies with high turnover or immature onboarding processes.
