Last week, as part of the Soil Fertility and Crop Nutrient Management in Ghana project, a two-day workshop on soil sampling-field survey was conducted by project team members from ISRIC, CSIR-Soil Research Institute and OCP AFRICA in Kumasi, Ghana. The workshop consisted of two parts: the first day focused on the theoretical aspects of the soil sampling procedure, while the second day was dedicated to hands-on practice in the field. The workshop offered a chance for all technical, scientific, and management team members to meet in person. It facilitated networking, the exchange of ideas and suggestions, and the organisation of work for the upcoming months. Participants discussed challenges and solutions, and clearly defined each team's responsibilities.

Provider of quality-assessed soil information. Host of the World Data Centre for Soils and World Soil Museum.
Over ons
ISRIC - World Soil Information is an independent, science-based foundation. Founded in 1966 following the recommendation of the International Soil Science Society (ISSS) and a resolution by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), ISRIC's mission is to serve the international community with information about the world's soil resources to help address major global issues. ISRIC is home to the World Soil Museum. ISRIC produces and serves quality-assessed soil information with global, regional and national partners. ISRIC stimulates the use of this information to address global challenges such as improved food security, land degradation and climate change mitigation through capacity building, awareness raising and direct cooperation with users and clients. ISRIC has been a regular member of the ISC World Data System (ISC-WDS) since 2011; originally, it was accredited as the World Data Centre for Soils (WDC-Soils) in 1989. For 25 years, ISRIC has been a consortium member of the World Overview of Conservation Approaches and Technologies (WOCAT). ISRIC is a member of Global Open Data on Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) and co-chairs the GODAN Working Group on Soils, focusing on interoperability of soil databases for better policy and investment decisions and risk mitigation. ISRIC strategy considers four priority areas: • Global Soil Information and Standards • Community of practice for soil information providers • Products and services to support sustainable land management decision making • Awareness, Education and Dialogue Supporting services include: • World Data Centre for Soils • Scientific research to support methodology development • Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) • Reference Collection and Library

🆕 A new open access paper titled, "Towards a modular, multi-ecosystem Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) framework for soil organic carbon stock change assessment", with ISRIC senior soil science expert Niels Batjes as main author, was recently published in Carbon Management. Read more here: https://bityl.co/SRuL ORCaSa project Taylor & Francis Group #SoilHealth
We are happy to share that our paper titled, "Towards a modular, multi-ecosystem Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) framework for soil organic carbon stock change assessment", has been published open access in Carbon Management. Building on an initial review of MRV schemes with a focus on croplands, grasslands, and forestlands we develop a framework for a modular, scalable MRV system. Thereafter, we provide an inventory and classification of selected MRV methodologies and subsequently “score” them against a list of key characteristics. The main challenge in developing a unified MRV system appears to concern the monitoring component. Based on this, we present a conceptual workflow that shows how a prototype for an operational, modular multi-ecosystem MRV tool could be systematically built during the next phase of the #HorizonEurope #IRC_ORCASA project.
