MX3D | Industrial 3D metal printing | Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM)
Over ons
Develops and creates robotic 3D metal printing technology. We are a company that does what it promises, and we promise a lot! Our Moonshot project the MX3D Bridge, a stainless steel / fully functional / 12 meter long / bicycle & pedestrian / bridge for the city center of Amsterdam, finalized on 20 October 2018. Our ambition is to create a tool that allows industry leaders, innovators and professionals to realize new designs at scale in metal. We strongly believe in creation by doing, failing and trying again. We create innovative objects we ourselves would like to have. We use art and research projects to test the limits of our technology, Robotic Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (3D printing with MIG welding robots). We therefor naturally have a need to create our own tools and software. Our basic technology is now used by Industrial Corporates that are interested in introducing this technology into there workflow. We believe there is more to life than work alone. By prioritizing, we focus on whats important and keep time free for family, friends, sports and fun.

In collaboration with NOVAMETAL GROUP and Cracking Art MX3D has brought a series of metal turtles to life using our #M-Systems. These sculptures highlight the synergy between advanced #WAAM technology and artistic vision, demonstrating how innovation can push creative boundaries while advocating for sustainability. Powered by Novametal’s high-quality wire, WAAM technology provides exceptional design flexibility, enabling the creation of intricate and customized pieces that transcend the limitations of traditional manufacturing methods. Additionally, NOVAMETAL GROUP’s premium wire ensures not only superior durability and precision but also enhances the structural integrity of each piece. The inspiration for these sculptures traces back to the 2001 Venice Biennale of Art, where Cracking Art’s SOS WORLD installation called for environmental protection and sustainable development. Continuing this mission, Cracking Art has collaborated on this project to further explore how technology and conscious innovation serve as essential pathways to meaningful progress. By integrating robotic #WAAM with digital and computational design, artists not only gain new creative possibilities but also benefit from sustainable production practices that minimize material waste and reduce lead times. This project seamlessly merges art, technology, and sustainability, demonstrating the transformative potential of WAAM across multiple industries. This week, MX3D is at the 4th European Space Agency - ESA Workshop on Advanced Manufacturing, from March 4-6th at ESA/ESTEC in the Netherlands. Our CEO Gijs Van Der Velden and CCO René Backx will be present to discuss the latest developments in advanced #additivemanufacturing for #aerospace. A while back, we partnered with European Space Agency - ESA and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) on a groundbreaking project for the future of #space exploration. Together, we successfully created a stainless steel 3D-printed skeletal lunar floor prototype, designed to serve as a foundation for future lunar habitats. Using robotic 3D metal printing, MX3D developed a lightweight yet strong structure, optimised for space environments. The project highlighted the potential of additive manufacturing in off-earth construction, offering a glimpse into how we might one day build sustainable living spaces on the moon. This collaboration with #ESA and #SOM showcased the innovative power of #robotic #metal3Dprinting technology, proving that the sky (or the moon) isn't the limit! A freshly installed #M1 #Metal #AM #System in Brazil, thanks to our amazing deployment team! Earlier this year we announced the new strategic partnership with CIT SENAI in which we would together be introducing #WAAM to Brazilian industrial companies. In January our deployment team successfully installed a #M1 #Metal #AM #Systems in their institute in Bello Horizonte, Brazil. The M1 is now fully operational, ready to be used to mark a significant step in applying robotic metal 3D printing i.e. #WAAM technology in innovative R&D initiatives. CIT SENAI will be focusing on key sectors such as Oil and Gas, Mining, and Nuclear Industries in Brazil. With the M1, CIT SENAI will be capable of printing up to 750kg with an 8 axe robotic system. We wish the CIT SENAI team great success in their upcoming WAAM projects. Feel free to reach out to Pierre Freneau or René Backx for future collaborations or read more about our M-Metal AM Systems at: https://lnkd.in/g9QehfKZ #MX3D #CITSenai #Brazil #Metal3Dprinting #Robotics #Roboticwelding #DED #WAAM #ControlledIndustrialWAAM

Did you know that you can print high quality metal parts at high deposition speed? For thick (> 1 inch) walled parts, MX3D can achieve excellent material properties even at a high deposition rate of 5 <> 8 Kg/h!! Or even better: a multiple of that number when using multiple robots simultaneously. We have developed successful deposit strategies for a large range of metal alloys including steels, aluminums, bronzes, and superalloys like Inconels. To achieve this, we have several high-deposit approaches including thicker or dual wire, multi-robot and higher duty cycle power sources. Of course, the effective deposit rate will fully depend on the applicable standard, material, and geometry. Want to know more about it? Since our conception MX3D has supported fundamental research by the world leading scientists. Check out this comparative understanding of the environmental impact of hybrid manufacturing. It discusses design optimisation for hybrid metal #additivemanufacturing for #sustainable #construction. In a recent study published on Elsevier for Engineering R&D at ScienceDirect, a group of researchers Hassan Baqershahi (Institute Steel Construction), Can Ayas (TU Delft) and Elyas Ghafoori (Institute Steel Construction / Leibniz Universität Hannover) have conducted a study to highlight the advancement of how combining wire arc additive manufacturing (#WAAM) and conventional manufacturing (#CM) technology. Article: https://lnkd.in/d6DGgWNp The results show that although the optimal proportions of WAAM and CM are dependent on their relative Specific Energy Consumption (#SEC), the hybrid solutions have always been environmentally superior compared to that of WAAM or CM alone for the realistic SEC values, exhibiting up to a 60% reduction in environmental impact compared to that of CM. An amazing result! MX3D finds this research pivotal in understanding the benefits of typology #optimisation and how #hybridisation of conventional manufacturing and #robotic #metal3Dprinting technology can expedite superior manufacturing strategies to challenge carbon footprint by lowering emissions. Congratulations to the researchers for this insightful research. #ControlledIndustrialWAAM #MetalAM #PrintOnDemand #Metal3DPrinting #Robotics #EnergyIndustry #WAAMComponents #IndustrialInnovation #MX3D
