Thank you for a sold-out third edition of Beyond Buildings! Joep Van Lieshout, Stella Verdult, and moderator Florine van Rees joined us for an inspiring conversation exploring the evening’s theme: ‘The Art of Space: Emotions in Design’. Both Joep and Stella shared their intuitive approaches to creation, each with a distinct lens. Stella emphasized the transformative power of color, while Joep highlighted the impact of scale and material. In Stella’s words: “I memorize colors I love and try to recreate them. Color feels different on different textures, sizes, or context. I play around with materials and objects until it feels right – then it goes into my toolbox of colors.” Joep shared: “I prefer making big-scale work. Size matters in sculptures larger works carry more power. Smaller works are more intimate. Bigger doesn’t always mean better, but it does mean more visible. It creates a different emotional impact.” Stay notified about the next edition by subscribing to our newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eYG2kVpG

Jakoba Mulderhuis forms a welcoming gateway to the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences campus. Not only does it inspire pollination of ideas with its open environment, but it is also designed to be completely future-proof due to its adaptable nature. Its modular structure allows for easy reconfiguration to meet evolving educational needs, but its versatility goes even further. Its modular design allows the building to evolve with the changing educational needs and beyond – the atrium roof can be removed to split it into two buildings, façades and floors can be reconfigured, and non-load-bearing elements can get easily disassembled. If, in a hundred years, the university needs to make way for housing, Jakoba Mulderhuis can entirely transform, ensuring it remains a vital part of Amsterdam’s city center. Material selection is key in shaping the feel of a space. By embracing craftsmanship and incorporating natural materials, we create beautiful environments that exude timelessness and comfort. Each element, whether it’s wood, natural stone, metal, or glass, carries its own unique qualities – when used with intention, these materials can shape the atmosphere of a space in meaningful ways. For us, carefully curated materials are a powerful tool in creating unique spaces that stand the test of time. Dive into our world: https://lnkd.in/dgcprpa

We had the pleasure of hosting a group of Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft students at the BaanTower site, where they gained insight into the design and construction process of this landmark project. As a key development in the remodeled Baan Quarter neighborhood, the tower showcases innovative engineering and thoughtful urban integration. Students observed the ongoing construction process, where they were able to learn about the practical challenges of translating architectural designs into reality. With the tower rising higher each day, the visit provided a valuable opportunity to engage with real-world applications of their studies in shaping the future of city living. Join us on Thursday, 20 March for an inspiring conversation on The Art of Space: Emotions in Design! For the third edition of Beyond Buildings we will be joined by sculptor and visionary Joep Van Lieshout alongside color specialist Stella Verdult to discuss how design carries narratives and evokes emotions, moderated by Florine van Rees, co-founder of The Dirt. How does our visual experience influence our relationship to space? In what ways do objects carry stories, memories, and meaning? And how do our design choices influence an environment and, ultimately, how we feel within it? Reserve your free ticket: https://lnkd.in/eYKFpbcA

KJ Den Haag sets a new benchmark in sustainable construction! By utilizing slag-based concrete, the project successfully cut nearly 450,000kg of CO2 emissions, proving that greener alternatives can be both scalable and cost-effective. As a byproduct of steel production, slag not only reduces environmental impact but also offers a practical, high-performance substitute for traditional Portland cement. This achievement was made possible through an incredible collaboration with the forward-thinking teams at JP van Eesteren and IMd Raadgevende Ingenieurs whose commitment to innovation and sustainability perfectly aligns with our vision for the future of construction. Their expertise allowed for a strategic application of different concrete strength classes, ensuring both structural integrity and environmental benefits, as the project minimized material waste while maintaining the highest building standards. We are proud of the Rotterdam City Council’s outcome approving the permit and zoning for RISE with 88% in favor. Emphasizing the importance of both eye-line and skyline, RISE ensures a seamless blend of the human-scale experience around the new Hofplein with the iconic presence of three high-rises. A harmonious blend of living, working, and public spaces. The architectural design of the three towers aligns with important post-war urban axes, such as Coolsingel and Weena, and fits elegantly with the upcoming public park of Hofplein. Reaching 286 meters, RISE will contribute 1,477 new homes to Rotterdam, including 739 affordable units, addressing the city’s pressing housing shortage. Among these affordable homes are 299 social housing apartments. This significant addition helps meet the municipality’s goal of delivering 3,500 to 4,000 new homes annually. RISE is developed by RED Company and was designed and engineered with an outstanding team of consultants amongst others DELVA Landscape Architecture | Urbanism, Van Rossum Raadgevende Ingenieurs BV, DVP, DVP Smart Concepts, LBP|SIGHT and Peutz. We are looking forward to the next steps!
