Nieuwsuur, the Dutch current affairs program, yesterday featured an interesting item on quantum networking in its geopolitical context, with interviews with QuTech's Prof. Stephanie Wehner, QuTech spinoff Q*Bird's Remon Berrevoets, and Deborah Nas, Professor at TU Delft's Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering. What prompted the item was the creation of QNodeOS: Quantum Internet Alliance researchers at TU Delft / QuTech, the University of Innsbruck, INRIA, and CNRS last week announced the creation of the first operating system designed for quantum networks. Their research was published in Nature. The operating system will allow developers to create quantum networking applications much more easily and across a large spectrum of hardware solutions, paving the way for the development of software that can bring quantum network technology to society. As Stephanie mentions in the item, the Netherlands and Europe have a strong position in quantum networking technology research, but bigger investments are still needed to take the step to move this technology to innovation.
