Introducing Omega, the first manufacturable chipset for photonic quantum computing. Designed by PsiQuantum and manufactured at GlobalFoundries, this chipset contains all the advanced photonic components required for million-qubit-scale quantum computers. Featured in a newly published paper in Nature Magazine, every photonic component necessary is demonstrated with beyond-state-of-the-art performance. The paper shows high-fidelity qubit operations, and a simple, long-range chip-to-chip qubit interconnect – a key enabler to scale that has remained elusive for other technologies. The chips are made in a high-volume semiconductor fab, representing a new level of technical maturity and scale in a field that is often thought of as being confined to research labs. Building the world’s first useful quantum computers.
About us
Quantum computing will be a world-changing technology with the potential to unlock powerful advances in medicine, energy, finance and beyond. At PsiQuantum, we’re focused on building the world’s first useful quantum computer. A useful quantum computer requires at least 1,000,000 qubits and error correction. We believe photonics is the only path to building a useful quantum computer. Our team at PsiQuantum is a mix of quantum physicists, semiconductor, systems, and software engineers, system architects and more. Error correction is at the centre of everything we do; and we focus on solving real-world problems. If you’re interested in joining our team, we are always open to hearing from exceptional people interested in working on one of the defining technologies of our lifetime.

McKinsey recently welcomed over 100 of Europe’s leading climate innovators and changemakers to our office for the Climate 100, which brings together climate leaders to drive collaboration between technology, finance, and corporate strategy. McKinsey's Jose Pimenta da Gama and Philipp Hillenbrand, alongside Cameron McLain and Tommy Stadlen of Giant Ventures, presented the event, and welcomed to the stage an incredible group of speakers and panelists: • Yet-Ming Chiang, co-founder of multiple climate unicorns and MIT professor, who shared his insights on being a climate optimist and the opportunities for innovation in the climate sector, even in challenging times. • Bill Winters, CEO of Standard Chartered, who discussed the critical role of transparent and high-integrity carbon markets in financing net zero, emphasizing the commercial potential in climate finance. • Jeremy O'Brien, who spoke on the transformative potential of quantum computing, and shared how his company PsiQuantum are aiming to build a 1-million-cubit system by 2027 to advance CO2 abatement. • Rebecca Marmot, Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer at Unilever, who addressed the benefits of embedding sustainability into corporate operations. • Mattias Åström, founder of evroc, who shared his vision for building a European sovereign cloud powered by clean energy. • Leah Ellis (CEO of Sublime Systems), Hayden Wood (CEO of Beams), and Christopher Kemper (CEO of Palmetto), who delved into the challenges and solutions for decarbonizing real estate, from cement to solar. Thank you to all those who attended for your energy, insight, and positivity! #Climate100 #Sustainability #Tech

Encouraging to see the whole field of quantum computing now beginning to take seriously the datacenter-like scaling challenges which motivated our founders to choose photons 25 years ago. Hear more from Pete Shadbolt tomorrow at NVIDIA's Quantum Day #GTC25.

Our partners at GlobalFoundries run a true high-volume, fully automated fab, and we’re proud of the progress our teams have made on the Omega chipset. Stepping into Fab 8 to see our pick-up truck-sized tools in action—already producing thousands of silicon photonic wafers—is always a humbling experience.

High-throughput testing is a critical and often overlooked part of the process of scaling from breakthrough devices in a research lab to a reliable, high-volume manufacturing process suitable for building million-qubit machines. Leveraging pre-existing industrial wafer testers as well as bespoke cryogenic test equipment, today PsiQuantum performs ~0.5 million room-temperature measurements per month and ~50K cryogenic measurements per month.

Photonic quantum computing has long dreamed of optical switches with well-beyond state-of-the-art performance. We developed a 300mm manufacturing process for one of the strongest electro-optic materials known to science, barium titanate (BTO). In the process, we built the biggest molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) tool in the world. PsiQuantum has integrated this material into our Omega stack at GlobalFoundries, and we are now beginning to use these switches for multiplexed single-photon generation.

The performance of the photonic components in our Omega chipset, recently reported in Nature, is already beyond-state-of-the-art. However, the data in the paper is more than a year old. We have continued to improve waveguide losses and other device characteristics well beyond the numbers listed in the manuscript.
